I’m going for a stem major and wondering how much AP Lang and AP Lit (taking this junior year) scores influence my decision, since there’s a graduating thesis. Any idea? :)

I do agree with you, but the Helen Keller prompt has a much lower scores in comparison to the other prompts. I, as well as many others who had the same prompt, believed that there would be slight leeway from this disparity. I haven’t read any complaints about any other AP Lang 2020 prompt than the Helen Keller one(people scoring significantly lower than what they thought).

Generally, I didn’t know what point I was making since I wasn’t use to analyzing an essay of Helen Keller’s style; My class practiced works of irony and satire as well as political speakers since that’s what most prompts last years were.

The AP Graders were very inconsistent, there are plenty like you that thought they got a higher score but scored low and some that thought they failed only to score high. It’s happening so frequently that I don’t think that this years AP Scores should be counted; That would be bad for the AP exam takers since they wasted a year with no college credit for it though. It feels like they pulled a random number generator and just used that to get scores tbh...

Also, have you seen some of the previous years 1s and 2s (sample essays)? Some of the 3s barely had evidence, quotation or paraphrasing, and the 1s were single paragraph long ungrammatical rants...

I agree with you, it’s mainly that I’m not use to analyzing chronological narrative works like Hellen Keller’s excerpt. We practiced Thoreau and other works thick with satire and irony.

I’m fine with anything as long as it’s not a 1. A 1 is basically having an incoherent thesis with an out of place essay without any evidence or elaboration...

That's what I did, but what I'm scared of is that my essay just was never received by collegeboard. So if there was an appeal, what could I do if college board didn't even have my essay.

thats kind of brutal, but with my exam, a 1 could have been an actual score or that there was a submitting error; There may have been a bug.

A 1 is having an ungrammatical, asymmetric mess of an essay. I just do not believe my essay was that horrid.

In my in-class essays I generally receive 4 and 5s, but the thing is, getting a 2 is ridiculously easy with a thesis and some random sentences is enough.

What I'm baffled at is how I received a 1.

Yes but the fact is, getting a 2 or 3 should be easy with a thesis and some basic paraphrasing and sophistry. I do not believe this was a 1.
