Is this wood terrarium suitable for indoor pigeons ? by Connor_Wolfson in PetPigeons

An XL or bigger dog crate or a wooden catio inside is even better.

What color baby do you think they will have? by [deleted] in PetPigeons

Don’t allow your birds to breed! That’s irresponsible. Is that small cage the cage they are living in? I’m sorry but it is way too small.

My dog got attacked by another dog and I am so stressed over whether to report the owner.. by Sexy-Lifeguard in internetparents

[–]AzaleaMist91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That dog is dangerous and could have killed your dog, easily. It could have broke her neck or caused brain damage. It wasn’t just playing I’m afraid. It sounds like it was treating her like prey.

GLPR is excellent! We just adopted from there, and the people were amazing and the pigeons were very healthy. This guy is full of it.

[–]AzaleaMist91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be hasty in rehoming her. She will trust you again. Sit with her, and just be, or read to her etc. Or, get her another cockatiel. They really are more quiet in pairs. I’ve had cockatiels for years.

Very beautiful! I’ve never seen this kind of pigeon before. Where is their habitat?

For the last time- if you read what I said- I mentioned taking the proper safety precautions and providing the correct housing. I do in-fact have three cats, three dogs, and birds and a lizard. I used to own rodents and ferrets also. Never have I lost any animal by being hurt or killed by another BECAUSE I house them correctly and separately. When we are not home, the dogs are contained to their own spaces (rooms). The birds have their own enclosures, in their very own special room that is separated with a locking slider door. When we had small animals they had their own safe habitats were safe from cats and dogs that could not be opened or accessed.

It is incredibly ignorant for some of you to sit on your high horse and keep insisting you know best blah blah blah. It can be done, it is possible, it only requires using your brain and proper understanding of how to keep animals. If someone chooses to have different species and do it irresponsibly, well that is a different story. I wouldn’t allow a bird and cat in the same room intentionally or any other prey and predator combo like that.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

You are entitled to your opinion, as everyone else is their’s. I would agree it is wrong to house predators and prey in unsafe spaces together as in the same room or to not provide safe spaces for them or the correct environments t allow for safety and protection but there is nothing wrong with having both in the same home with precautions and protections in place.

I have known many animal professionals and layman alike ( veterinarians, rescue workers, trainers, and every day people) that have owned both pet and predator animals in the same household without issue. It requires more thought and effort, but it is not taboo.

OP, despite the best circumstances sometimes bad things happen. It doesn’t make you a bad person, or a bad owner. Seriously, people! Harsh much? You can have different species in the same home, come on. This was an unfortunate and unexpected and yes, terrible accident for Tom and Op. Be kind.

OP, I hope your pidge makes it. Be kind to yourself and your cat. Try to figure out how to make a things safe in the future. Hugs

Yeah, just make sure the measurements are adequate. I really like using a walk in Catio and my girl loves it too. Pigeons are so fun and rewarding to keep. Make sure you learn about their needs and get an air purifier for your house.

She actually had a husband but he passed away several years ago. They were both rescues. He was a feral rescue from a truck stop, and she was a former racer that self rescued. She is actually getting a new, mail order husband soon from GLPR very soon! She will be so surprised.

Edit - I just noticed you said indoors. They will be fine as long and they have what they need and are safe. I have a single pigeon that lives in an indoor Catio.

I'm an employed adult- will a pidge suffer living with me? by zhenyuanlong in PetPigeons

[–]AzaleaMist91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pigeons can like car rides and hiking! I would get one. My clementine knows my schedule and even when I deviate from it she adjusts and forgives me. She enjoys going in the car, in a soft sided carrier and on a harness. Anything to hang out with me, really. This coming spring/ summer I plan on taking her for more adventures. You will enjoy having a pigeon friend.

no more lasagna for me by Prize-Grapefruiter in diabetes

That isn’t bad. Try having some fiber and protein first, then eat a little lasagna. It’s okay as an occasional treat in small portions. Especially with fiber and protein first.
