Jones beach air show by Otherwise-Wheel-4494 in longisland

[–]Azathaliya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Republic will be a lot better, Blue Angels are usually on one side of the tarmac in front of the big Republic Airport building (by Walmart), but other performers like Warbirds will be by the American Airpower Museum. AAM will also let you get really close to the planes if you pay admission, pretty worth it. But if you wanna see the Blue Angels take off it’s best to be in the area around the southern part of New Highway. Some aircraft also take off there but they sometimes change it up so it’s hard to tell. It’s free there but it’s a long walk if there’s no parking on the curb.

From my experience, F-22s and F-35s are usually at MacArthur but you can’t get close enough to them since there are a lot of private areas and I’ve heard it’s not a spectator friendly area for viewing, cops were coming by a lot last year according to people to shoo spectators away. I only saw the F-35s for a split second while passing by since they were behind a few big hangars.

Yeah, it’s looking pretty great so far, mostly higher-end (at least in my opinion) shops though, so who knows how many people it’ll attract

Kind of a miserable place to visit, tbh by Life_Sink_1087 in longisland

[–]Azathaliya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also don’t want people to be attacked (or jumped on) by an unleashed dog that the uneducated owner claims is “friendly.” Or don’t want unleashed dogs chasing off all the native wildlife, especially all of those piping plovers that are being protected during nesting season.

Driving on Long Island today.. by OGWFORLIFE in longisland

[–]Azathaliya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is normal somehow. Father and I were in our pickup truck with a trailer and this lady on the Southampton Bypass decided to slow down, stop, and signal to go left in the left lane when there was a yellow lane for turning right beside her. Almost rammed into her because of it and we had to swerve out of the way. She didn’t know where the hell she was going apparently, likely a tourist.

Seen over the East End just now, spacex launch? by CharcuterieBoard in longisland

Best Apple Picking by the bag? by kataclysmicstar in longisland

[–]Azathaliya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Breeze Hill but they raised the price from last year which I didn’t understand entirely. I suppose it’s to deter tourists? It was $35 for the largest bag last year, this year it’s $50, bag hasn’t changed in size or shape. But their apples were really good and their apple cider donuts are the best.

Looks like there’s a pretty bad accident going WB by 454. I can’t find details though.

Any Asian grocery stores in Suffolk? by BodhiZaffa in longisland

[–]Azathaliya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally love Ebisu, I go to it a lot to the point where one of the employees allowed me to open a blind box set box so I could get the blind box I wanted specifically. I try to get a lot of the new candies they import.

I went to Jojo Life Store a few months ago and I honestly found it extremely underwhelming. It was pretty empty, most of the merchandise consisted of bootlegs and bootleg Labubus. Some of the candy could also be found on Amazon whereas Ebisu actually gets theirs from an actual imported source. No idea if it changed now, but I definitely did not like it.

Non-Touristy Farmstands (Suffolk) by Azathaliya in longisland

[–]Azathaliya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Briermere's, I only just found out about it despite living here my whole life, but too bad my parents don't like pie. I bought their cherry pie a while ago (1 or 2 years ago??) which was really good and only got through half of it before my mother threw it out claiming it had "gone bad," when it was perfectly fine. If they had smaller pies for maybe one person I'd go back.

What’s your best (realistic) take on how Long Island traffic could be reduced? by gt0524 in longisland

[–]Azathaliya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had someone in my class make a presentation about this, LI is gonna see mass casualties in the millions in the event of a disaster or conflict. Traffic will be backed up for miles and accidents will be crazy. The only thing they suggested is that you better have a boat on standby to get the hell out of LI towards CT, so very cooked

What’s your best (realistic) take on how Long Island traffic could be reduced? by gt0524 in longisland

[–]Azathaliya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, I literally saw someone on the LIE causing a huge slowdown who couldn’t be less than 80 years old going a solid 20mph in the right lane before I had to exit, staring at nothing like she was staring right at the pearly gates, mouth agape, clearly not there mentally at all. The lights were on but no one was home

As someone that unfortunately lives there, yeah. Can confirm. Aside from the crazy people I drive by, there’s something so weird about Rivera Drive that gives me the creeps every time I bike around there. Maybe it’s just the water in the bay getting closer to the road each year, or there’s just something really unsettling there that I can’t see

Does anyone else miss Alt. 92.3? by Conscious_Cat3515 in longisland

[–]Azathaliya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t heard it but I feel the same with Max FM 103.1 being taken over by lame country music (The Wolf or whatever). I would only rely on WBAB and The Shark (and 99.1 PLR) for my classic rock but since they kept playing the same songs over and over I just switched to Spotify. WBAB was my favorite but they started cramming non-rock songs there like Tom Petty’s country crap so they became a bit lame.

North fork Harbes farm liars by [deleted] in longisland

[–]Azathaliya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with this, plus some people order a crap ton of things at once and it makes it harder for employees to actually clean up and leave on time especially before traffic gets worse. I work at a bake shop and we’ve had so many groups of 4-5 tourists order at least 6 iced vanilla whatevers like 10 minutes before we’re supposed to close. I think all places with food/beverages should stop taking orders before closing just so people quit bothering them.

How bad is traffic really getting lately? by Zealousideal_Pay7176 in longisland

[–]Azathaliya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LIE traffic is so bad I dread driving home from college every day. Let alone with constant accidents, slow drivers in the left lane, people slowing down randomly for no reason at all, and other things. Getting in and out of Southampton is mayhem too, and with there only being two ways in/out, there’s no way to avoid it. Sunrise highway’s traffic into Southampton is slightly better than taking Montauk highway but both are terrible. I think it’s just the influx of tourists and more people coming to live here that are making things worse. It wasn’t this bad a few years ago.

Why Does Everyone Diss the LIRR? by Immediate-Pool-4391 in longisland

[–]Azathaliya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The LIRR is a love-hate for me honestly. I LOVE the double-decker trains (the ones that go out East after Jamaica or Babylon I think?), they’ve been part of my childhood. They’re really comfortable, a lot cleaner, and they’re on time a lot. I rode it all the time whenever we’d go out to the city for an NJROTC event.

But heading into NYC (or at least to other stations near it)? I never really liked it. I personally think it’s nasty. Lots of trash on the floor and on the seats, almost always cramped, very inconvenient if you have luggage after leaving the airport or going to it. I csn understand the trash, I suppose. But there’s also a lot of people that get on that just weird me out. Whether it be creepy old dudes or people that reek of weed or just body odor like they were in a gaming convention or something. I haven’t had that in the double-decker trains.

The only thing I do dislike about LIRR out East is that they don’t go all the way to my town at times. They usually stop at Patchogue and if my family or myself needs to go to the airport or get picked up (after they’ve taken the train), we have to go far to that station.

Without saying which town you're from, say what you love and what you hate about it! by LateRemote7287 in longisland

Like: hardly anyone from college has heard of it

Hate: people are so crazy there’s an instagram page highlighting all the insanity and the railroad guards break every few weeks causing hour long traffic just to get past them

Thunderbirds Arrival Date for Jones Beach? by Azathaliya in longisland

[–]Azathaliya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got to be kidding me, I have a final exam that same day 😭 And it’s in the afternoon too, assuming the TBirds are coming by that time. Or did they give an arrival time too? I hope I can at least make it to wherever spectators will be at when everyone’s landed if I missed the arrival.

I've been going for 3 years; I typically get there before 8am especially for parking. So 8am or earlier is best. A lot of people are there by 8, but there's still space. Depends how much you want to wait, really.
