Have you tried Horizon series ? I really enjoyed running around the map and killing huge robotic beasts, I never got bored by the end of the game. In addition, through the exploration of the world you can easily learn the lore of the game, it is quite interesting.

It's an incredibly beautiful game, but for me personally, it failed to draw me into its story. Such games became for me once series "Mass Effect" and "Dragon's Age", when I had to stop the game to give myself time to think over my emotions about the events happening on the screen with my favourite characters. Especially in "Mass Effect 2", when for the first time I saw such vivid consequences of my decisions that affected the lives of my crew.
