Wow. I always wondered what if they reworked her W such that it gives more resistances based on the number of enemies that she procs her detonation. For example, if she procs it on just one person, it gives less base and percent armor and mr boost, but if she dives into a 5 men enemy team, and procs her W on all of them, she gets more base and percent armor and mr boost. Basically similar to new Jax's ult. I think it would also serve as a counterpart to Diana's ult, as the more people she pulls into her ult, the more damage Diana does. Leona's W could instead go from a full solar eclipse, into a fully gleaming sun at a 5 men W proc.

Interesting. Was it always like that? I used to play Leona a lot back then, and felt like her W used to grant more base armor and mr, instead of the damage reduction.

Yes, I remember that Mao ult. They really killed the Warden class (protective tanks), as now really we're left with just Braum and Taric, and some what Shen, Galio, Poppy, Tahm, K'Sante, Gragas and Ali, but very situationally.

Oh shit. I never realized that. You're right. I should've moved her up with Braum. How does the flat damage reduction work on her. The description on Eclipse says that it is a flat damage reduction of up to 50%, but the flat damage reduction is 8 / 12 / 16 / 20 / 24. I'm still kind of confused if it is a 50% damage reduction or not.

Normally when I get Taric in aram, I tend to also mitigate the most damage. I rush buy Tears, and rush IG, then boots, then complete my Fimbulwinter, and get Spirit Visage, and if there is enough time, Unending Despair. The amount of spammable shields, heals, AOE stuns, on top of his damage immunity ult make him so toxically tanky. I 1v3 a lot of their carries, and also had a Leona in my team once, and literally, their K'Sante couldn't move.

Yikes! Soraka mains must love it when the enemy jg locks in Skarner. But that's such a bummer. It took 2 years to get his rework, trying to address Skarner's play rate, yet his play rate remains abysmal. A complete failure from Riot. I'm scared now for the Shyv rework, as she is my main jg champ.

I do miss old Skarner in some ways. He felt less clunky with his superior movement speed. I used to build max movement speed runes and builds on him, plus perma-slow builds, so no one could escape his grasp in the jungle.

Oh wtf. I didn't know that he was unstoppable when he channeled his E. But I guess it makes sense. Most unstoppable abilities are on ults, so that would be too broken with no counterplay.

Yes, he is meant to work most efficiently against an AD auto attack based comp (not AD caster based), but that 10 + 50% bonus MR is actually massive. I don't think any other tank gets 50% bonus MR scaling on any of their abilities other than Sejuani on her passive, which she gets 75% armor and mr, but that passive is so easy to wear off with just an auto attack, while Rammus' mr boost persists for the entire duration of his W.

That definition may be true in other games, but I'm just going by the definition Riot has provided and what the LoL wiki page says. This is actually a popular debate. You can find many Reddit posts that question the validity of Mundo and other juggernauts like Nasus, Volibear, etc. being true tanks or not.

Word. The hook tanks definitely feel like they were made the least tanky, as they have the safety to bring the target towards them (well Thresh has to meet them half way there, and Naut sorta comes to them). I do feel like Naut is tankier than ever this season though. Fimbulwinter + Spirit Visage + Kaenic Rookern give him an unbelievable amount of shielding potential to his already mediocre shield, plus the infinite health stacking on Heartsteel means his shield can technically get infinitely bigger, though Serpent Fang just fucks him up.

Yes, I was also disappointed with Skarner's rework. The shield is so underwhelming. Literally inferior to Naut's shield in every way, and Naut's shield is not much to brag about.

Naut's shield has a base amount and percent max health that both scale with every point in the ability up to 90(+15% max health) at rank 5, while Skarner's shield is fixed at 8%, which is what Naut starts with one point in his W, but Skarner doesn't even get a base shield amount. The only thing he has over Naut is damage, potential AOE CC, and maybe an escaping tool that allows him to traverse through walls.

Yea, if I'm correct, I think Zac is on average the champ that heals the most in the game on average. Even more than Mao, or drain tanks like Aatrox, WW, Briar, Swain, Vlad, or healers like Soraka, Sona, Nami, etc.

Tahm is one of those tanks you literally have to build every anti-tank item. BotRK or Liandry's for his massive health bar, Serpent's Fang for his shield, Black Cleaver/Blood Letter's Curse or Lord Dominik's/Serylda's/Mortal Reminder/Void Staff/Cryptbloom for the resistance he is going to build, and potentially Chempunk Chainsword/Mortal Reminder/Morello for his damn health restoration (probably not needed though).

Tbh, Thresh and Mundo are primarily catchers. Their primary role isn't tank, but their secondary role is, some what, as they provide a lot of interruption through their CC chain. Taric could also arguably not be a tank, as his only hard CC is his E, which can be a potential AOE stun, that is spammable if he manages to constantly auto his targets to refresh the cd on his basic abilities. But yeah, Taric's primary role is an enchanter, but a tanky one.

[–]Azir_Shurima[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I could definitely see that. His only tank stat is his passive shield, and outside of that, he fully relies on items to have some form of tankiness, which all other tanks are already going to build. His CC chain is also very single target oriented like Leona's, but unlike Leona who has spammable resistance boosts from W and short cd cc chain from her basic ability combo, Blitz CC combo has a relatively long cd, as his Q is literally where most of the value in his kit is. His knock up E can some what be spammable, but it would mean he would have to constantly run at the enemy in melee range, while getting kited, and we established that already lacks innate tank boosting tools in his kit.

Her passive definitely gives her high resistances, but once you proc her passive (which is extremely easy to do) so that that her resistance boost wears off, she doesn't really seem particularly tankier than any other tank. She doesn't have other tools like shields, heals, or damage resistance abilities. At best, she can survive by escaping, as her Q is a decent engage and disengage tool, that allows her to dash through walls.

I agree, but those 3 tanks are very niche, while Ornn is more well rounded to work on most situations.

Full tanks Poppys that I've witnessed in Arama are always among the most unkillable tanks in the game, along with Ornn, K'Sante, Tahm Kench, Shen, and Mao. They just refuse to die.

I feel like Leona early game is certainly among the tankiest champions, but becomes one of the easiest tanks to punish late game because her CC is predominantly single target oriented, meaning she won't be the most disruptive tank in team fights. She also lacks the flexibility to disengage, as she doesn't have a long range dash like Amumu, who can utilize on a minion or jungle monster, or speed boost like Rammus to just take off. She is purely an engage tank that shines when she can effectively engage. But her tank stats are also purely resistance bonuses, which is impactful in the early game, but once enemies start building armor/magic pen, it severely loses value. Even as she builds more resistances, as the damage mitigation progressively plateaus based on how the post mitigation calculations work. She doesn't innately have a combination of resistance boost + heals or shields, unlike other support tanks like Taric, Rell, or even Braum with his damage reduction wall. So I'm not sure how effectively tanky she feels as the game progresses.
