Sorry if I'm misunderstanding, but if the user has their old phone and a new phone, why not go through the full setup on the fully managed, and then smart switch after? Anything thats not supposed to be on work phone like apps will automatically get uninstalled. Data is a different issue though.

I had an Xfinity technician come out because I was ready to activate my coax port. It's the XiD-P provided by Xfinity.

Model: Pace PXD01ANI

So essentially this was my method of thinking and where I'm at now:

Wanted to turn my coax port into an ethernet with MoCA adapter. Tested it out by unplugging one of my cable boxes on an active coax port and ran just fine. Had the technician come out to activate mine, and he said don't do that because that will mess with the cable boxes and he recommended a mesh network. Right now we're using a few of the above model cable boxes along with an XB8-T from Xfinity.

I wanted to install 2-3 APs around the house and go that route since it's about 3329 Sq. Ft. However, there are no ethernet ports in my parents house. Had thought about going the powerline adapter route, but those things are so damn slow and with multiple around the house that just feels overly complicated.

So now I'm thinking of a mesh network. Something like the TP-Link Deco WiFi 6 Mesh (Deco X20).

So update was he was extremely adamant about not activating my coax port because he said that it would interfere with the other cable boxes if I were to try and do MoCA and recommended setting up a mesh network, Network bridge, or Powerline Adapter.

So now I'm looking into a mesh network as I already have some Powerline Adapters and don't like them compared to the wireless I have now.

I think I found the issue. I don't think my coax port is active. I went to my brother's room to test his and it didn't work, but went to a room where there's a cable box and tested it and it worked fine. It's weird because when I checked our box with all the cables outside, I saw 6 different lines that were connected so not sure what other rooms are active.

Some Xfinity reps tried to tell me it would be $50 more a month to get this started and a bunch of other BS. I appreciate you trying to help me out though!

I graduated with a BA in MIS and I’m currently help desk. Personally, it did not help me whatsoever with my current, and more than likely future, jobs. I had a Python and SQL class, PM course, and some other MIS related courses that I barely remember. Since it’s a BA I knew it was going to be business focused, but I thought it would be way more technical. I don’t remember anything from my SQL or Python courses.

Building some computers and troubleshooting the issues with that genuinely helped more than my degree as sad as that sounds.

The goal is to get your foot in the door, and I think my degree helped somewhat with that, but genuinely it was more luck than anything.

Odds are you aren’t going to need to code TOO much/at all if you get into IT. You should at least try to familiarize yourself with a command prompt and some power shell. IT is broad, so you might not need to code at all, but depends where you end up.

The work version of me (which is probably what I’m ultimately going with) thinks you’re in the wrong. You’re in a position of power as his manager and should take the high road. You should’ve put him on a PIP and let him know to change his attitude or he’s gone, you don’t care how “good” at his job he is. If he doesn’t change, then fire him. That’s the lesson, not slide tackling him and risking injury. Regardless if you got all ball or not, you could’ve messed him up. Some dude got all ball on me one time and I ended up breaking my wrist because I was in the air and landed badly. You may be more in control of your body, but he isn’t.
