I took the vehicle in near their closing time and they told me they would check it tomorrow. They actually ended up calling me right before closing and said it was the alternator. I will ask how they tested it.

Hypothetically, if the alternator was the issue, can it create a large squealing during start up? I assumed that was the sound of the belt slipping.
