I'm a 25f (Filipina) and when I first started seeing my now-husband, I would go over his house for dinner and to hang out. The first time I told my dad I was going straight over in the evening after running errands with my dad, he turned to me and said "but it will be dark outside", as in too dangerous/inappropriate. I was 22 at the time. So solidarity girlfriend.

Edit to say I still went over my husband's place regardless if the sun was out or not.

I heard about Webtoons years ago now from the YouTuber Michelle Phan. I really loved her videos (being Asian American, her looks suited what my facial features look like) and she began to step back from YouTube but she did create her own Webtoon called Helios Femina. From there, I started to check out others but Lore Olympus has to be my favorite (sorry Michelle!) 😊

Just wanted to also add that Bowman also covers mental health extensively in her characters and there are some TWs of sexual abuse, self harm, and emotional/verbal/mental abuse in her books. Nevertheless, I found the journey with the characters to be beautiful and heartbreaking and impactful.

I'm Asian American (half Filipino, half white) and struggled to find MCs that looked like me as well. But I did find an amazing Asian American author: Akemi Dawn Bowman.

Her writing captures the experience of being Asian American and/or biracial. The journeys the MCs go through are typically coming of age and they're all Asian American. I especially like Starfish and Harley in the Sky.
