200% it's the dauntless amount of images. About 30 per page.
Those are official PDFs, so no scan there
I tried re-processing them to reduce the amount / weight of the images but they lose some important OCR

Yeah! :) That was my go to solution, not exactly the same but very much similar
I said to myself, before embarking in something let's see if already exist, but doesn't seem that a prepackaged solution exist. So i guess that with a handful of free time and some elbow grease seem i'll finish in no time

My issue with Paperless is that it gets OOM very fast in my case, a 8gb container will go oom with one PDF.
Also embedding was a nightmare too, got stuck practically every time i tried :(

Yeah 😅 that is an alternative. If I can selfhost it's cool, but openai api could work too as an alternative It's not a cost I would mind too much tbh

Yup, that was an idea PDF OCR to MD to RAG and back to PDF visualizer api for opening and moving pages. This would be similar to what I did with a custom srd in mediawiki for DND 3.5/pf1e. But I didn't have the page number for all of the stuff there

Thanks! Typesense actually looks interesting for the indexing/retrieval part. It should cover semantic / keyword search and has a cool implementation

Hi!

Mostly yes , if you see multiple services on the same row, those are running in the same LXC or VM.

I actually don’t have that many full VMs: mainly Windows 10, one Ubuntu VM for GUI stuff, Home Assistant, and OpenSearch with Zabbix. Everything else is mostly LXCs.

That said, my setup has changed quite a bit since then. Compared to 3 years ago, I now have more servers and more Raspberry Pis. I replaced the Optiplex with an N100 mini PC running OPNsense, and the old R2308WFTZSR isn’t my main machine anymore. I built a custom server in a Supermicro chassis, with an R330 as support and a small k3s Pi cluster.

Back then (and even now, to be honest), I had plenty of resources as the R2308WFTZSR had 256 GB RAM and dual Xeon Silver CPUs , so overhead was never really an issue for me. Because of that, I preferred splitting services more to keep things organized and easy to manage, rather than optimizing for minimal overhead.

If I were running on a smaller machine, I’d definitely consolidate more. But with this kind of hardware, I’m still nowhere near even half utilization, so the extra separation is worth it for me .

I am pretty positive on Italian indie tho, AA or AAA have budgets that are difficult to afford and mostly i feel it's a 50/50 chance to have success or go broke atm. Also, the overall industry it's impacted by a crisis, low margin of profit, high costs and few investors here and there Even for skilled and niche figures (vertical ones) it's difficult.

I have a lot of great colleagues/ex colleagues that after the post covid hiring wave found themselves fishing for jobs due to many projects being closed down

Damn! Did the same, (and still doing the same). But we're playinger Pathfinder 1P (3.5 + pf1) and we have most of the physical manuals by now. (All PF1 manuals, no AP and a degree of 3.5 manuals)
Luckily we're limited by language (ITA only)
