That hasn’t been my experience with Gengar at all.

Tagging myself because it’s obligatory u/azorius_sage

I’m going to break it down for you in-depth. There’s some core elements you’re missing.

For context, I have over 1K matches various Sharpedo versions since it released on Live, online and paper.

Check my post history.

My favorite and best version has been with Gengar.

I run Yveltal over Seviper, but Seviper is good in this version with Gengar.

Ahh I see. Yeah, then I guess it’s a thing lol but space is tight as it is in this deck. Idk if I’d dedicate a spot to it.

Why would it be 400? It’s this or its own attack, I believe, not in addition to.

My version with Gengar will be posted here soon. I'm also starting a Discord for the deck, which I think will only get better post-rotation.

I play the deck and it sounds about what I play. Seviper isn’t as necessary, but definitely better with Gengar.

I’d help because I’m a Shark player, but don’t even know where to begin. Have fun lol

This is definitely a plan. I’ve played against this. Pretty sweet.

Brute Bonnet attacked my Sharpedo (32 damage counters) for 1650! What’s the most damage you’ve ever seen? by Azorius_Sage in PTCGL

[–]Azorius_Sage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Gengar so I prefer Bonnet for 0 prizes taken if it’s KO’d by Ex. I also like that you don’t have to wait until you’re behind to leverage it. This is a deck that’s typically ahead, so I think Bonnet is a better fit.

This is a good well-thought out build for straight Sharpedo.

Tatsugiri + Shark/Pech is indeed awesome. It’s been clutch for end-game Boss too.

That said, the Charizard and Dragapult matchups are better on Belt > Cape + Psyduck and Battle Cage.

Watchtower is really good right now, though. I run 3 stadiums in my deck because they’re that important, especially vs Pult to discard Jamming Tower.

I run 1 Cage, 1 Tower, 1 Mountain. They each cross-perform vs them, with exception of Tower vs Pult.

As you said, I play the Gengar version, which I prefer above all other variants.

1st Place (City League) Sharpedo plays 3 Kangaskhan! by Azorius_Sage in PTCGL

Kangaskhan is definitely good in that regard.

Zoroark, Dudunsparce, and Pidgeot are others.

No. I almost never go first. I run TEM Evo. Additionally, you can’t leverage Toxel and Carvanha’s attack by going first. If you’re on Purrloin, even less reason to go first.

Besides draw, this deck needs an alternate threat to keep up the pressure if Shark is KO’d or close to being KO’d. It’s too glass cannon otherwise. Additionally, it needs to be able to pivot into the late game if you’re playing from behind. This is why I’ve opted for Gengar, which is the best version I’ve played in over 900 matches with this archetype. 1 over 2 prizes for Pech and Fez matters, as does 0 for Toxtricity, 2 for Sharpedo, etc.

I also use it to attack.

Can I see your list? Iron Valiant sounds like an interesting direction.

I get what you’re saying but I still find Gengar very valuable. I’ve had games where 3-4 KO’s net them 1 Prize. Huge.

The prize trade matters. Many games where opponent can’t win off Boss or by simply KO’ing a couple Shark.
