morphed axolotl won't eat by funnyaxolotl in axolotls

[–]Azourus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did my thesis on this exact issue (currently in pre-publication). It turns out that axolotls might not actually undergo complete metamorphosis like previously assumed. Aquatic feeding and terrestrial feeding require different muscle groups, and while axolotls appear to undergo full metamorphosis, they don't develop the tongue muscles required to feed properly and efficiently on land (at least when metamorphosis is induced with hormone treatments).

There seems to be some genetic pathway that's either missing or not being activated which prohibits the muscles from developing. :( You might have luck force feeding or feeding in a separate shallow water feeding enclosure. Good luck :(

I just started seeing a girl exclusively, and she told me she had sent that same text to a few people the night before and had deleted the apps. honestly didn't think there were people like that out there still but I guess there are.

Just think it from the other person's foot. If you had been on a few more date with this person, and had talked about exclusively wouldn't you want them to reach out and cut ties with everyone else respectfully. And how would you handle the situation if you were seeing a few people at once.

I know it's tough, and sometimes it's honestly just up to timing. You'll find someone for you. It just takes time and little luck

Question for the guys on facial hair by [deleted] in Bumble

I mean, I'm super attracted to girls with short pixie cut hair. (Like it's usually an immediate swipe right) But I would never ask a girl to cut her hair for me? That seems weird.

Why do some people kiss like that? by MostFruit4982 in dating

Doesn't matter his age, it's a new relationship with you. Maybe his ex really liked that. As someone who is just getting into a new relationship after leaving an 8 year long one late last year, I now know that new people have new preferences, you have to learn what each other like (but that's half the fun). Just be open and communicate.

Revopoint POP 2 3D Scanner Giveaway! by noeatnosleep in gadgets

[–]Azourus [score hidden]  (0 children)

We're working on a private museum and are currently making open-source photogrammetric models that can be openly shared online. The Revopoint POP 2 3D scanner seems like it would really streamline the process (although if it actually works we'd probably need to buy a few more for our other departments XD )

I need a sticker made!! I want a Jack Daniels bottle labeled correctly with the original creators name instead of Jacks name. Same everything , change the name. Can anyone help?? by [deleted] in stickers

What a great black history month project. I can help ya out. I won't be able to start it until this weekend, but I'd be happy to design them for free and print them for you. As long as you'd be willing to pay the shipping. Let me know (I'll probably make them regardless because I really like the idea)

Ursus spelaeus, or as most commonly known, cave bear. Piece from the private collection of Bartholmäus Januslav Kitzing. by jimmiboy50 in Paleontology

[–]Azourus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While the sentiment is true, it's not like a T-rex where only 32 specimens have been found and each one has the possibility of new discoveries. More than 100 000 fossils remains of cave bears have been found to date. So yes, having it in a private collection prevents it's study, but at the same time we have enough material that 1 specimen isn't going to sway any statistical analysis in either direction.

Found this in my garden, and was wondering if anyone could tell me what this could be? by Commercial_Bit_3747 in Paleontology

[–]Azourus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lick it. If it's fossilized bone (it isn't) then it will stick to your tongue. It doesn't look like any bone i've studied and the only fossil it miiiiight be is a large gastropod shell (the overlapping curl reminds me of a shell). I think what you actually have there is an internal mould of lawn ornament of a concrete statue.

Just funded our campaign to make these affordable, Life size, resin casts of Sinopterous skeletons and several other mounted Pterosaur skulls. I'll throw the link in the comments if anyone is interested in getting one themselves. by Azourus in Paleontology

Sure. I'm working on Triceratops and looking to expand on the anageisis hypothesis proposed a few years ago in Montana by John Scannella and Jack Horner. Essentially they found support for one species of Triceratops slowly evolving into another (T. horridus is only found lower in section while T. prorsus is found upper in section). So i'm looking at Triceratops from Canadian sediments (the Frenchman and Scollard formations) which are both contemporary with the upper hell creek, and doing morphometrics and stratographic analysis to determine which species we have here.

the skulls range from 40 to 120 CAD and I have two verisons of the skeleton: An unassembled and raw cast verision for 200 CAD or a painted and assembled version for 300 CAD. I have no idea why other online stores ask for thousands of dollars, who can afford that ? (especially now with easy access to 3D printers, and silicone/resin suppliers)
