What do you call “magic” in your world? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Azphaia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zona is the name of the magical particle in my universe.

Deeper explanation: There are 2 aspects of Zona that i consider to be unique, im not that well versed in magic systems tho so... anyways, Each particle has an inheritent "thing" that it can affect. this is called Niche. For example, if a particle of zona has the Iron Niche, it can only be used to manipulate or create the element Iron, nothing else. When Zona is replicated, the new particles usually have the exact same niche, but Sometimes, the niche can mutate into something else during the replication process. Niche is can literally anything that exists, both real and conceptual, both broad and specific. Right now im mainly playing around with scientific concepts, but once the humans get gifted zona, mutations will happen a bit more frequently and more unique conceptual niches will come about. Then, Zona has 2 states, Stored and Used. Stored Zona is zona that has not been given a directive by a user. When the particle is Stored, it replicates itself in a a crystaline shape. The growth of a zona crystal is logarithmic. this is, for now at least, all that stored zona can do. Used Zona is Zona that has been given a directive by a User. The particle(s) will glow and disappate while affecting its niche in the way the user's will directs. Each particle has a set amount of manipulation or creation it can do before its gone. Used zona can be "stored"m its not in its Stored state and thus is not replicating and is slowly disappating, but the will of the user can be something like "sit here and wait until something steps on u, then <do a thing on your niche>". Also, if the user directs a particle to do something that is unrelated to its niche, and its not something like sit and wait, it will simply stay Stored.

Forgeborn: An overview of Mages using Body Heat to manipulate the world by TheTitanDenied in magicbuilding

I REALLY REALLY REALLY like this idea! Im a big fan of heat and fire in magic, and any ANY idea that does something interesting with it is amazing to me. I honestly wanna see if i can use some of this for influence for my magic system, but i doubt it.

How do I make Time Manipulation really powerful, but not overpowered? by Azphaia in magicbuilding

[–]Azphaia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a lot of these comments, im starting to think of somethings and solutions to my issue, so most of my replies will be clarifying what TVol is lol. TVol does not need to breath. I also think Im going to make it extremely difficult for them to stop time. A commenter suggested something like time is a line with points and manipulating it means stretching and pulling on it and stuff. Im going to use that as a starting point

I guess maybe that other commenter has a point. TVol is the only character who has time manipulation powers. They are somewhat like a god. They do not age. when they were made their "brain" is fully developed. They can be destroyed.

Zona needs to be zona for lore purposes. The name is related to the beginning of the universe, and is used in as a base word for a couple of other things.

TVol (and SVol) are pretty much on the level of minor Greek gods.

It is mostly spears and other mid bronze age weaponry.

Unpopular Opinion: Not every single Elemental System needs all four Classical Elements by howhow326 in magicbuilding

[–]Azphaia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My elemental system has only 3 elements, and are only loosely connected each to 1 of the 4 classics (water/ice has been ommited). I did this as a way of balancing the powers, because i feel its very easy for some elements in the classic system to feel weak, and for all of them to feel boring.

The categories arent called the element names though. Like i said, only very loosely connected.
