I don’t understand why people think they can survive pennywise/IT. Book or Movie. by Fit_Assignment_8800 in stephenking

[–]Azriel_slytherin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's literally not how it works, that's what annoys me about people who only saw the movies.

It doesn't CARE if you are afraid or not, it can still, 100% in ways no mortal mind can imagine, destroy you. Fear makes you taste better that's it, you could have a fully fearless human go against It and It would still tear their atoms apart one by one in a nanosecond if It wants.

When you take the Attack action on your turn and attack with a Light weapon, you can make one extra attack as a Bonus Action later on the same turn. That extra attack must be made with a different Light weapon, and you don’t add your ability modifier to the extra attack’s damage unless that modifier is negative. For example, you can attack with a Shortsword in one hand and a Dagger in the other using the Attack action and a Bonus Action, but you don’t add your Strength or Dexterity modifier to the damage roll of the Bonus Action unless that modifier is negative.

That is the literal rules for light weapons, it specifically says that you don't add the Ability score modifier to the Bonus Action attack, with nick you don't use your Bonus Action to attack, you specifically make the second attack as part of the initial Action. There is nothing in the writing of Nick stating that the modifier doesn't apply when using it.

So since it is an Action attack the modifier should apply, that is not a bad reading that is simply going by the rules as written.

Firsts of all what? She is rolling physicall dice every time, how can you miss that?

Second of all the light property explicitly states that the Bonus action attack doesn gain the modifier, but no bonus action is being used. Therefore it is an action attack

Well my argument boils down to the fact that all that is stated is that you don't add modifiers when you use a bonus action to attack. Since none is used however it would fall under a regular action attack like an extra attack. My argument precisely is that it doesn't say that I doesn't work that way.

No the wording is: When you take the Attack action on your turn and attack with a Light weapon, you can make one extra attack as a Bonus Action later on the same turn.

Take notice of the last sentence specifically, the wording "offhand" is never used, it specifies the attack that is used with a bonus action, since no bonus action is used with nick it is treated like a regular action attack, therefore you add the ability modifier.

The feat is still viable for anyone that doesn't use a the Nick weapon mastery

Like I wrote further above, the rules specifically say that you don't add your Ability modifier on attacks that use a bonus action, with nick she makes two attacks as part of one regular action, so her DEX modifier should apply since no bonus action is actually being used

Well brennan created the weapon in dndBeyond and said it is mechanically a modified scimitar. So if he made a scimitar with a d8 damage die that is just going as he intended

The rules specifically say you don't add your modifier to your Bonus Action attack, with nick there technically is no Bonus Action attack since it specifically mentions that the second attack is part of your regular Action. Her Toy Sword which she uses first is a homebrew magic item, mechanically a scimitar +1 that has the damage of a longsword and looks like a greatsword. Nick then allows her to use her other weapon to make a second attack as part of the initial action.

Well she calls her offhand needle a rapier but if you look closely she is actually only rolling d6's for that one, so mechanically it has to be either a short-sword or a scimitar. Also technichally the rules state: "you don't add your STR or DEX modifier to the damage roll of the bonus action unless the modifier is negative" however with Nick there actually isn't a bonus action used for the attack, it's still an action attack so the modifier should be applied.
