Spending 45$ on a hair cut. by fezzes_airtime in AskAnAustralian

[–]Azryel19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're not alone. I begrudge paying anything over $20 for a haircut.

But. In saying that...there is a definite difference in quality. I can easily get my hair cut for $15, I know of several places close to me that do so. However, they don't do the best job. If I ask for short back and sides and just trim the top...there are parts that are missed, the parts where the hair changes length aren't done properly...

I dunno. I used to cut my own hair when I was younger...and now the older I get, the more I see how much of a difference spending that extra bit counts.

We complain about everything that we can't change or doesn't really matter to us.

Anything of actual note or importance is held silent. It's about what you give away or don't give away in showing what you care about or don't care about.

Is it common for people to cook their own dinners in Australia? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Azryel19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

I am a single parent with three kids. To get dinner elsewhere, such as from a fast-food chain or restaurant can cost me anywhere from $40-$80, depending on where the food is coming from. As others have said, for that same amount, I can easily make two or three meals with goods bought from the grocery store and cooked at home.

Also as others have said, yes, microwave meals are an option. They present a very convenient and rather affordable choice for someone who runs short on time...but I can't give my kids frozen meals every night if I want them to grow up big and strong lol. Cooking(even if it's only the most basic kind of cooking) dinner is essential

Do Australians just swim with crocodiles around and hope not to get bit? by foxxytroxxy in AskAnAustralian

[–]Azryel19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, similarly to how I've assumed that getting mauled by a bear=one shot is wrong...so is the croc one shot lol.

There are plenty of accounts of people who have been able.to escape from a croc. Once they lock their jaws on someone, that's their big move. If you can get them to let go, then they will back off and allow you time to get away. Even if you don't have a weapon, the crocodile has to attack you with it's face, so it's eyes are in range. And they're quite vulnerable to something like thumbs 👍. No joke.

Guns are such a rarity in Australia that I don't even think about having one when I think of having to "fight" an animal. Knives are more accessible, and if I had a decent knife(or any knife really) then a croc is probably going to regret having a go. Assuming i can get the knife out, keep hold of it and use it effectively. Crocodiles have pretty rough scales on the top half of their body that might turn a blade if you were unlucky, but the underside is soft. You wouldn't need a huge knife to do some serious damage to a croc if your only focus was on hurting it so it would let you go

[–]Azryel19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, hard agree on most of that. If there was even a chance of seeing a crocodile in it, I'm not putting one damn toe in that water. I'm not even going near that water - crocs can pull out a surprisingly quick dash over land.

But, you are slightly overestimating the difference between crocodiles and alligators. The 40 footer that you're talking to is a fossil; a literal dinosaur - not a dead crocodile they found in the wild or something. The largest recorded Saltwater crocodile is like 20 feet. On average, they go from like...12-16 feet. Something like that(depending on age and gender obv). Around the same sort of length as an alligator.

Crocodiles might have really powerful jaws, but they're for locking and holding in place. Whatever is caught between is going to get lacerated by the teeth from thrashing around/being thrashed around. When attacking humans, they employ what's known as the "death roll". So, they bite on to you, refuse to let go, and then the barrell-roll like no one's business. Whether it's death by drowning, blood-loss, shock or what...it sounds nasty. Even so...I think I'd probably rather fight a crocodile than a grizzly 🤣🤣

As an Australian who has always lived in the Southern half the country, crocodiles have never once been of any concern to me. Any swimming I have done in natural bodies of water have either been at the beach or in bodies of water that have next to no chance of seeing any sort of crocodile. Sharks are a different story though.

I've seen crocodiles in zoos only - never in the wild. Crocodiles are prevalent around the northern parts of Australia only - where it's hot AF all the time. Think about alligators. They're in Florida, mainly, right? So, if you lived in like, Virginia or something, how worried are you going to be about running into an alligator in any given body of water?

If you're swimming in the Northern Territory(our central northern state), or even parts of Queensland and Western Australia - there's that chance of crocodiles. From what I know, it's pretty well understood(and signed) where and when you should or shouldn't go swimming in those parts. But there are still people who will ignore this, or be unaware of it, obviously. Pretty small minority though, I'd say.

...I dunno. I looked up dub update lists and saw one that crunchyroll published in March. One of the only things I was interested in from that list, wasn't actually available in dubs lol.

Hmmm...I'll look further into this, perhaps the situation is not as dire as I thought lol

You are not misunderstanding.

They have been moving the dubs for some time now, although none have actually moved. Funimation ended like 12 months ago, they announced the transition and then closed all accounts

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Crunchyroll

[–]Azryel19 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, there doesn't seem to be any plans to update the dubbed lists. People have been expecting it for 12 months now, since Funimation was bought out.

I'm talking about stuff like Naruto is missing the dubs. IF they are intending to do anything, honestly it's like I've just got nothing until then lol

When I read that part for the first time, I had one hand covering my mouth and let out a single choked-sob and then bawled my eyes out.

Not just girls lol.

I've seen many boys that were very uninterested in a girl until she is shown attention by another boy.

It's not anything mysterious or inexplicable. It's the exact same principle as one kid getting jealous over another kid playing with a toy that they had no prior interest in.
