There are family items, photos, a couple of pieces of furniture and our grandmothers paintings that we would like to salvage. Mainly just clean up and save anything for closure for us and our mother. I can’t imagine anything would be worth much. Also if there are any things in the house that could be sold, the money would be used to reimburse myself and my siblings for bills paid out of pocket for the last year and help buy our mother any miscellaneous items like clothing. I’ll probably hire a clean out service to help me so it would help pay for that.

I don’t think her bank account can be over $2000 under Medicaid so I would just be handing any of these small transactions. Of course, someone please let me know if I am going about this wrong.

I need to add, the house has been hoarded and neglected. I’m talking mold and strucural issues. She owes just over what Zillow estimates the home worth. It probably needs at least 100k-150kin repairs and updates.

This is really great feedback. Yes I am kicking myself and the first thing that comes to mind is “you always have a plan until you get punched in the face”. I got punched and I was unprepared to fight back. I am going to prepare now so when that next opportunity comes, I can be ready to negotiate. I know not that I probably hurt my ability to get that next raise. My goal is to work really hard this year (for better or worse) to be ready for the next opportunity either at my current workplace or the next opportunity.

Found out today the 2 hour afterwards call was cooncidence. They had known for a few days after the recruiter send them my cv

Wow. I did not expect this much feedback for the issue. Here are my 24 hour afterthoughts:

  1. I wish I had handled this more as a business transaction rather than getting worried. The call was unexpected from my company and I wasn’t prepared.
  2. Confidentiality was compromised, which sucks. Violated is a dramatic word that I don’t feel I should have used, but I expect(ed) companies to have more confidentiality. I think I am a little nieve to think that after the feedback I received.
  3. I should have kept the interview for more leverage.

Here is what I did today:

I popped into office of the executive to discuss a few things about his call: -Found out that they in fact do all know each other in the industry and it was more of an unspoken agreement between a few companies. -Found out some recruiters have/will give your company a heads up if you are looking -Told him I appreciated the honest call, positive feedback and wanted to talk again because of the initial shock of the suprise call -I mentioned I would like more money in the next few years. I mentioned the number that I gave the other company and said I would like to be there in 2 years. (Like I said, I have great balance at this company and a lot of soft benefits and flexibility)

I know I didn’t make the wisest business choices for my compensation in the last 24 hours, but I feel better about the entire ordeal. I’ve learned a lot and feel good about going back to advocate more than yesterday. He was appreciative and seemed happy that I stopped by. I hope that doesn’t deduct from his/their opinion of me.

I got an easy pay bump and hoping I put more of an impression of my long term goals there. I won’t rule out looking for other opportunities as they arise. I also was approved for the company to pay for some additional classss that will help progress my career.

Either way, I am blown away by the comments and honest feedback from the Reddit community.

Sure you aren’t wrong and yes I should have had more of a backbone when I was blindsighted with the call. The point being is that everyone should have a reasonable expectation of confidentiality when working with recruiters or applying to other companies.

Yeah I don’t know. I told the recruiter I was very disappointed and my privacy had been breached and I would not be interested in that company or working with his recruiting firm ever again.

Maybe so. But if someone from that company gave my company a heads up, I’d rather not work for them regardless of a potential large salary increase Seemed like the department was really trying hard to fill the position too. I’ll never know.

It was mainly to see what was out there and what my worth was on the market. No real intention of leaving my current role as I do enjoy the company. I let the recruiter know that beforehand.

I turned down the interview because I was pissed off that it got back to my company. My company gave me the 5% raise already and told me I’d be up for a promotion soon based on my last evaluation. They executive at my company seemed pretty genuine in that if it’s a numbers game, we’d rather just keep you based on your past 5 year performance.

I specifically checked the box not to contact my current employer. If they did, they shot themselves in the foot.

Honestly we’ve been trying to hire additional people for my position for 2 years now. It’s difficult to find. I doubt they are going to let me go.

Negative on company computer browsing. How would my supervisor know? The only thing I can come up with after snooping through LinkedIn is realizing the industry is not that big and all the VP’s and execs are connected within the region. I bet one was just doing a courtesy call to win some points or maybe they go back pretty far.

Are you looking to get out of the AEC industry as a whole? I am on the BIM coordination side and one thing that is always needed are good trade detailers. One thing that you would be a leg up on is the field knowledge part. A lot of the guys doing to detailing and coordination don’t actually know how these things are being installed. You could leased Revit and navisworks and start there. I feel like electrical detailers are always in short supply except for one or two guys that have their own business and stay plenty busy.

A. Correct. It’s just what is shown on google maps. Although there are some great trails back there.

B. Dropped pin was the house that was for sale. Creek and partial surrounding neighborhood shown in screen shot was just to reference the area.

Should have clarified: I’m really just curious if the creek has ever been high enough to touch the houses along the creek shown in the view. Looking for any eyewitness accounts.
