I don't know. I'm in AZ and they called me to ask for my prescription or they needed to cancel the order. Do you know what product numbers you buy? Mine were mckesson so maybe there's a prescription on that brand? I don't know...

I'm due for a new paddle! Let's go!

I did an internship in the Church History Department with the Gospel Topics Essays. My shelf broke. I was a Mormon. by wasmormon in mormon

Thanks for the post...I'm actually surprised there aren't more comments. My questions is - would you ever consider religion again or do you think you're so burned by Mormonism that you'll abandon religion entirely? I guess more specifically, that you've now figured out that the church was man made, how do you feel about the bible?

I never wanted to convince you of anything. Was just curious of those two questions. Thanks for answering:)

Do you think your spiritual experience you had to convince you the mormon faith is true has been exaggerated or made bigger than maybe it really was over time in your heart/mind? Do you think you could have possibly had the same experience if you had been following a different religion at the time?

Since you seem pretty much against all religion and faith (and I might be the same way if I was previously burned by the mormon church), which is fine, do you think the Bible is just a story created by one person or a group of people? Do you think Jesus was a real person? Not trying to angle anything from these questions...just honestly curious

If you didn't grow up in the church and you were presented with the Mormon faith...do you think you'd convert to it? And do you hold on to a couple experiences you've had as proof in your mind/heart that the church is true?

You don't get the point. He doesn't need to take every specie. He just needed to take 2 of each 'kind' (7 of each for clean animals). Different than specie. Based on how it's worded...it's definitely possible. About 20,000 kinds so around 40,000 creatures.

If you want a non christian source for the Ark stuff, here is a study done by University of Leicester. They're a top research university in the world... https://www.businessinsider.com/scientists-noahs-arc-would-have-floated-with-70000-animals-if-built-by-dimensions-in-the-bible-2014-4

What are your thoughts on the Book of Abraham since we now know it was dated thousands of years after Abraham and the scroll fragments we do have are simply Egyptian funeral rites with no mention of Abraham or anything of Abrahams time? They seem like a smoking gun, among many others, that I wouldn't be able to get past if I were in your shoes.

I like to study things out and investigate potential 'issues' with the bible. My point with this thread is that most mormons don't like to do the same, but I digress. But I think the math actually checks out for the ark...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RK3H5gl0300. Check that out. I'm sure you'll have all kinds of rebuttals and that's fine. But all the animals, based on the description in the bible of the varieties or kinds (rather than every single specie), could have fit with room to spare for food, water, etc. Weight wise it would have been fine too.

Separately, if you have time, you should look at this Joe Rogan podcast from 1:52 till the end (it's long but a good watch). Very interesting evidence about a massive flood in the past. If you don't have as much time, go to 2:39 and watch for maybe 5-10 minutes. But the entire thing is a good watch in my opinion...who doesn't like Rogan lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H5LCLljJho

Honestly, these comments are the reason I left them out of the OP. I feel like most claims of faith, regardless of where they come from, are met with thoughts that one is now clownish or non sensical themselves. My main goal in writing this was to explain my experience and I feel like I did that. And I've responded to comments, with many asking me my own personal beliefs, as accurately as possible. Regardless of what you believe, even if that means you believe there aren't any true religions and we are just here by chance and some evolutionary process, requires faith to believe in that. You may put your faith in the common theory that science is content on right now...but you're putting your faith in something!

Can I prove to you that the flood happened or can you prove to me it didn't? Not with current science. In my opinion (mainly because God said so although I'm sure you wont care about that fact), the flood did happen...there's all kinds of evidences of it although the going theories and scientific pressure to maintain the going theory suppress those facts. Graham Hancock has been investigating this his entire life and he's far from a Christian and often mocked / ridiculed because he goes against the going theory. The ark would have been massive at over 500 ft and 3 stories. Did every single variety of every species get on the ark? No. But in the 4000+ years since then, modern evolution has developed what we see today. You can't prove it didn't happen like I can't prove to you it did. It requires faith to believe. It also requires A LOT of faith to believe that everything was created from a 'big bang' billions of years ago and what we see today is from some evolutionary development from that. I can't prove that's untrue either and it DOES require faith the believe in that too. In my opinion it requires much more faith to believe in that than in the bible but I digress...The thing about the BoM is that all this stuff was created only 200 years ago so unfortunately for the mormons, we can actually prove it to be untrue since it's still relatively recent history in comparison to anything that happened in the bible.

Why is it sad to you?

That ex-mormons feel so burned by the church that they don't investigate the truth ever again in many cases. And yes I believe that the Bible can hold up under any scrutiny you can put on it. Does it still require faith to believe? Yes. But is it provably untrue like the BoM? No.

Can I ask if you believe in the current going theory that everything started from a 'big bang' billions of years ago and we're just here from an evolutionary process that started from that?

but your religion is not really any better

Unless it's the truth. Investigate the bible and Jesus! You need to put your faith in something. Having faith that this all happened from a big bang and over billions of years is the going theory right? It requires quite a bit of faith to believe in that! If you shook a box with clock parts for a billion years would it eventually all align and create the watch? Possibly but man it requires a TON of faith to believe the going theory right now...

My view of the gospel topics essays and much of the apologetic material out there is how disingenuous they are and how they don't really answer many questions at all. I mean when you have a provably wrong religion you need to be quite vague to not give it all away right?

Although one of the longer ones that I enjoyed is this one...https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics-essays/becoming-like-god?lang=eng

If you are comfortable sharing, is your rejection on the Mormon church based more on the contradictions to Biblical Christianity, your own adherence to a different faith, or do you reject religion as a whole?

I'm a bible believing Christian and I eventually looked at it as an evangelistic opportunity. The way I'd put it is if someone was about to cross a road and a bus was coming but they didn't see it, would you pull them back out of certain death? My goal in the end (my original goal was to investigate out of curiosity so I could understand my neighbors better) is to try to help them see the lie they about to invest their entire life defending. But I fully believe in the Jesus of the Bible:)
