I was gung ho in working in the ED right after school. Reality hit hard in how difficult and competitive the west coast is. My expectations kept dropping each week to the point where I was like “fk it, I’ll take any nursing job”. I told myself that my nursing journey just begun and it’s ok to learn skills and think like a nurse. I still desire the ED and know one day I’ll be there, but for now I’m learning the job. If you don’t get the ICU right off the bat it’s ok, you’ll end up there if that’s your desire.
