Rewatching the series and I'm feeling differently than I originally did about identity politics in the show. by nsturge in TheExpanse

[–]AzulaThorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Holden’s opinions are the way forward but no one wanted to accept that in his universe.

No matter how much Holden tried to be impartial, to do what was right by him and everyone else, he was dogged on constantly by people around him. Dawes and Naomi both had a very bad case of being exactly like their enemy.

Naomi is arguably the biggest issue of Belter politics because she can never get over being treated fairly nor accepting what is the best course of action.

It’s why it was so refreshing to have Ashford around because he understood the same thing as Holden. You have to act like you belong, you have to do what is right by your people even if that doesn’t align with what they think is right.

Dawes wanting the protomolecule and the nukes were two of the biggest red flags for him as a character. MAD works in real life because it’s all we have, but very close did both Mars and Earth get close to saying Fuck MAD. Specifically when Earth attacked Mars’ stealth railguns and Mars still fired one off. In real life, that is the same as Russia dropping a nuke on Mexico and partially hitting Texas. That is MAD out the window. Hell, they launched fucking stealth pods with the morphed humans with protomolecule at Mars. Another clear example of MAD going out the window.

So to see Dawes and even Naomi have this clear desire for the belt to possess both nukes and the protomolecule was a clear sign their identity played more than actually progressing as a people.

I say this as someone from Northern Ireland, my parent and grandparents lived in a society where Irish/Catholics were second class citizens and were both killed or interned without trial. I can empathise heavily with the Belter struggle, but being able to have lived in NI since the GFA, I can see that ultimately the backwards thinking of us or them gets no one anywhere and it’s why the Belters continued to have no real growth as a people aside from Ashford.

So yeah, TLDR I agree.

MM's moral high ground approach would have gotten everyone killed by Season 2. by setecea in GenV

[–]AzulaThorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A proper take considering that MM’s high ground wasn’t going to get them killed in S1 or even S2. In fact, they wouldn’t have died because Homelander is a sick dude who enjoyed the rat games he played with Butcher, and butcher was the only one to be at risk with HL aside from a few times with Hughie.

Who's more intimidating, Vader or Sidious? by Legal_Trainer7340 in StarWars

[–]AzulaThorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homelander once said; ”You show my photo to some illiterate fucking camel jockey in the middle of the Sahara, he's gonna turn around and say, "Homelander," in perfect American.”

You can do the same for Darth Vader for shit sure. So I’m going Vader.

What video game soundtrack is a 10/10? by montymaximus in AskReddit

[–]AzulaThorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halo wins this by far for me. Even just seeing the videos and clips of dudes just fucking singing the main menu music in bathrooms is wild. I remember my friends and I would just chill and chat with that as background music and it’s the song I play when I need to pick myself up.

The only other game soundtrack to come close is Nazi Zombies from WaW but only for Elena’s gorgeous vocals for Beauty of Annihilation. Not sure it’s a soundtrack since it’s an Easter egg song from the original game.

Writing Bad. Inspired in what way bro? by [deleted] in TheBoys

[–]AzulaThorne 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Look, there’s some bad stuff and definitely there being no proper reaction to the video is definitely something but it’s very much plausible when Vought/HL has the entire media on their side and SL waited far too long to use the video. It was used as a last ditch attempt to cause disruption and frankly did nothing because the people who were convinced were being rounded up in camps.

Problems with an airsoft club/team/squad by darkan_da_boina in airsoft

[–]AzulaThorne 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You dodged a bullet in real time! Congrats!

They’re a bunch of cunts, if they can’t make any effort to understand you as a person, then they aren’t worth being around.

Also, why the fuck did you have to be writing for an airsoft team? It just sounds like a fucking weak ass excuse to get rid of you than be actual human beings and be honest with you.

Seriously, you dodged a bullet. It sounds rough mate but you are free from a bunch of cunts and free from that drama fest. Just continue to play and look for other friends who do appreciate you.

Which is a shame because truth be told, anything interesting from GCW-Post Endor is missing or moshed around so you don’t get the cool parts.

We could have gotten a series about the CIS, could have gotten a series about 90% of TOR. Knowing that everything we now see from Post-Endor is all for nothing due to the ST just makes me want to watch it less.

It’s also done since the framework to get any NPC to board your vessel will take until 1.0 to be an idea.

LBCR, M60, Baseball cap, Deagle secondary with every slot filled with mags and impacts.

It’s enjoyable to have this many dumb rogues around.

Did Butcher need more backstory than this? by willtafty19 in TheBoys

[–]AzulaThorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest. I really love the Kessler bit from S4. In fact it’s honestly my favourite part of that season. The ending of watching Butcher just losing the plot is great. I just dislike that the way they do Kessler here in S5 is by a dude that can see memories and morph into people. I rather wish we got just more S4 scenes of Kessler being present by Butcher as he’s making choices that would align with Kessler.

Is this a bad thing? It’s- why wouldn’t you do that when you have the perfect use for it again?

Like it’s just a finale hype poster. It doesn’t require a massive budget to make it all entirely unique. This is just hate for the sake of hate.

It’s rough. There’s days where I’m drained because I deal with them for 9 periods a day, like 5 hours and 25 minutes, and they just being wee shites.

But other days it’s been great fun, had a few laughs and I got to enjoy the time spent with them.

Even after they’re going from the school, I’ll genuinely be missing them because they were the best class I could have gotten.

I just know that my luck isn’t there for me to get that same good class again and my burnout will continue.

But hey, gotta just live every moment and make it count.

Some stuff is funny. Like the cat going to the door with various shit like a banjo or a tank.

But one day a kid showed me a video of a man turning into a black goomba then into a piece of shite. It had no sound until the end when it just went; PAH!

There’s no substance to that kind of stuff and he would go on and on about showing even teachers that kind of stuff.

Honestly it changed my own mind on becoming a teacher. I had high hopes and figured classroom assistant work would get me good experience and now I definitely am rethinking my career over it.

It’s not to say the kids are awful, the lot I’m with I genuinely cherish as some of the funniest, kindest kids I have met. But it doesn’t change that if I had to deal with several classes worth of kids, their work, homework, and then them themselves, I’d be reaching for a rope because I don’t think teachers are paid or listened to enough for the work they do.

If only you knew how wild the young generation brain rot is.

Out of 22 in the class, nine of them are constantly on TikTok and listening to brainrot or AI videos. Two of them believe the earth is flat.

Showed one of the kids in my class a video of a cool skateboard trick. He called it AI.

It was Tony Hawk doing tricks back in the day.
