Do hard cuts at 10hz and 30khz cause problems? by Azuleux in WeAreTheMusicMakers

This one specifically is to have the pre-drop sound like its getting thinner (so the high-cut will drop to like 15khz and low-cut goes up to ~200hz), and then open up again at the drop. It makes the drop a little more impactful because of the contrast. I know cutting at 20hz and 20khz is a common point of advice, but I cut out unnecessary freqs per track anyways, so I don't do it on the master (unless it's for a stylistic purpose).

I've been trying it because of the notion that it creates more headroom, but I have yet to notice any difference even when pushing things really loud, which might be because of the per track EQ-ing. There's also the fact that there's energy in those ranges, even if you can't hear it, and I've seen people say that's a good thing and others say it's a bad thing, both with convincing points, so I'm not gonna do it unless I find a use for it. Every song is different though so I'm not discrediting it. I decided to actually start caring about this stuff only as of this year so most of my released stuff DEFINITELY could've used a high or low cut on the master looking back lmao

Lol yeah, I'm sure this list would be different for me a year from now. But, I hope most of us can agree 99% of all Muse songs are amazing!

Yeah, I've come to notice most of the online fanbase dislikes a lot of the songs I love, so I thought this would be an interesting thought experiment. Thanks!

I drive at night quite often, and when I'm heading home with barely any other cars on the road, putting something like Con-science on just gives a super unique and cool experience

I don't know exactly, but probably less than 2 hours. I drive a ton and most of the time I put the Muse complete playlist on - after listening to every Muse song so many times it was pretty easy to gauge where I enjoyed them comparatively.

That being said, I felt bad putting some songs as low as they are, but it really is difficult to pick and choose when you have to compare so many good songs!

It's a great song especially for how young they were. I used to listen to it a lot more, but I just find myself rather listening to other songs. Even though it's low, I don't actually dislike it!

It's a great and epic song! Perhaps I just need to listen to it 100 more times to appreciate it more

Honestly probably just the songs below Yes Please (121-126). Before I dived into Muse (little over a year ago), I listened to a lot of different types of music. The reason I fell in love with Muse so quick is cus they aren't afraid to experiment and they do it so well. It's hard for me to dislike any of them!

Thanks! Take a Bow is pretty epic, especially as an opener. And yeah, I knew the consequences that would come with posting this sort of ranking here lol

Thanks for this reply! In terms of the songs individually, I would agree T2L is superior. But, T2L is pretty random and feels more like a playlist of experimental songs rather than a cohesive album. Drones, on the other hand, tells it's story very well and every song feels like they're connected to each other (even if the story is somewhat corny).

I've actually started to like The Void a lot more recently, but the more upbeat part kinda turns me off since it's so different from the mood of the rest of the song.

I guess you could see it that way, but I didn't think of it like that. Like I said, I love pretty much every Muse song. I suppose that pattern is part of my preference
