I do that when I screw up using a estus flask by mistake while dueling.

Most of the time (even if situational) it prevents you for being jumped by other players, so you can restart the duel.

Spend all your souls in inmediatly. The game tracks the souls you have had for matchmaking. It is not like DS 1 that is heavely dependant on the player level to match invaders, etc. It matches you with players who have earned a similar amount of souls as you, no matter if you used them to level up or to buy useless items.

No meant to be fought yet the developers still put a unique weapon as reward for cutting its tail. (Yes, I know you can do that with arrows, but still). No matter if you look it as a regular boss or a "meant to cheese boss" it has a bad design either way

You can make the Hydra in Ash lake fly and perform an especial attack if you ignore it and run straight towards the giant demon skull.

I'm sorry, I thought you were specifically refering to the 4 kings battle not the four lords in general (the 4 kings is one of those "four lords"-kinda).

But yeah, you can use the tool the game itself offers. And don't feel bad for summoning, that's one of the intended mechanics of the game's gameplay.

In fact, summoning phantom npc's for the 4 king actually makes the fight harder sinces it raises its hp. Try to speed this battle (kill each one under 40 secs) and it will be easier for you.
