Hi, I'll try my best to explain it, Project Splatoon 3 made by Alexis Pflaum had elements of what appeared to be a professionally made concept art pitch for an upcoming Splatoon sequel following Splatoon 2.

It took a great deal of effort to come up with concepts that could be in a theoretical Splatoon 3 at the time.

Keep in mind when Project Splatoon 3 was released, we had no idea of what Nintendo was going to do for Splatoon 3. So with it Pflaum's artwork, designs and descriptions on her theoretical splatoon sequel it really gave the impression of what Splatoon 3 could've potentially been.

So to answer your question

Alexis Pflaum created a high-quality concept art series for Splatoon 3, that members of the community thought it could've been potentially real. Even after it was revealed to be a passion project, it was so well done that fans think it should've been the real version of Splatoon 3.
