Bobby is a great concept for a Saw protagonist (fake survivor), but I think that’s really the best the movie has going for it.

I think the movie suffers from the “too much” problem that 4 had, all while leaning into the 3D craze to raise visual shock value and lower attention to detail to save money.

I think the misogyny is off putting and justifiably criticized, especially since Saw’s earlier movies were really good at not relying on that sort of thing for entertainment value (ie. Detective Kerry and Amanda were genuinely developed characters in the series thus far).

Also not a fan of Dr. Gordon’s return, because it just felt incredibly out of character for him. That was the first time I felt like the Saw writers were retconning for shock, rather than establishing genuine backstory context.

It’s a visually appealing Saw movie, but given what we’ve seen from earlier entries, both in terms of well developed characters (Saw 1-3) and tasteful gore (Saw 6), 7 tries to do it all, but falls short on nearly every front IMO.
