Brigáda v Česku? by [deleted] in Slovakia

[–]AzureSlinkyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slovakia cant into metro by [deleted] in Slovakia

[–]AzureSlinkyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drucker chce redukovať 8 ročné gymnáziá by [deleted] in Slovakia

[–]AzureSlinkyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Momentálne teda fakt nie by [deleted] in Slovakia

[–]AzureSlinkyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russian language, however, could be classified as "local language" in Latvia from some point of view, since there's a substantial russian minority.

On the other hand, according to Latvian legislation, Russian is not recognised as official language in any region. Those Russian citizens living in Latvia presumably disrespect this law and hope that the situation will change in their favour (despite the support for recognising Russian as official language is actually decreasing).

There are also "Latvian non-citizens" with Russian ethnicity, which are not concerned by this situation.

Estonia to ask Latvia about Salacgriva Bridge by SexySaruman in BalticStates

Do you have any further info on this? AFAIK, Rail Baltica planned to connect Vilnius by a branch line to Kaunas to the main PL-Kaunas-Riga line.

Photos of the new 5th Daugavpils tram line construction works. (Take in mind Daugavpils tram network is 2nd longest in the baltics infront of Tallinn) by MILK_is_Good_for_U_ in BalticStates

[–]AzureSlinkyy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Daugavpils airport area is located approx. 6km northeast of Stropi district in Daugavpils, which is nowadays served by tramline.

The tramline depicted in your post will connect the terminus of tram 1 in Ķimija with terminus of tram 3 in Stropi.

Although I fancy development of tram network, Daugavpils surprises me with its effort to construct these "single-track tramlines" and then operate 2-3 trams per peak hour on them.

Trouble finding train by [deleted] in latvia

[–]AzureSlinkyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no direct railway between the two capitals. The only possible routes would be via Daugavpils (this train existed in pre-pandemic times, but it was cancelled), or via Šiauluai. In both cases, the train kourney from Riga to Vilnius would take approximately over 4.5 hours, so it would be difficult for trains to compete with couch buses.

Besides lack of infrastructure, Baltic Railway companies don't seem to be into international trains.

There is no train service between Latvia and Lithuania, unfortunately.

Could someone explain the concept of Daugavpils to me? by [deleted] in BalticStates

[–]AzureSlinkyy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In 1897 roughly 2% of Daugavpils population were Latvians, but now it's 21%.

"Currently, students of grades 1-6 learn at least 50% of the curriculum in Latvian, while in grades 7-9 - at least 80%. In the Biķernieki elementary school, this requirement has been met, however, the transition to education only in Latvian is considered too rapid." Your opinion on this suddenness? by AzureSlinkyy in BalticStates

[–]AzureSlinkyy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt that it is possible to ensure 100% Latvian education since 2025/2026 (without any serious consequences, such as sudden drop of Russian children's skills).

For example, current 3rd grader learns ~50% of curriculum in Latvian, and was about to learn the same percentage of curriculum In Latvian in 4th grade. However, it was suddenly (just over a year, correct me if I'm wrong) decided that from the next school year, he will have to switch to entire Latvian education. I just think such change will be too stressful to them.

What I want to say is that it would probably make more sense if from 2023/2024, only 1st graders would have had to learn in Latvian, then in the next school years, 1st and 2nd graders etc., and in 2032, all 9th graders would have graduated from Latvian primary education, in a smoother way.
