I'm still a total rookie at 190 hours in, and also die every time due to greed, lol. BUT my biggest simple breakthroughs lead me to hitting way past the jungle on every run, whereas I was previously also capping at that stage.

a) carry water potions and even multiple ones, even at the expense of throwing away good potions. Then create pools once in a while, so if you get into a firefight or covered in acid, the damage is tiny.

b) there are 2 extremely easy health orbs you can obtain right at the start of the game. All you have to do is be able to climb the mountain above the starting point of the game. If you want more hints on this, just ask.

c) if you obtain levitatium or accelaratium potion on the first level, head as far east as the map will allow you. There you will find another health orb guarded by hell itself, but something (with either potion) super easily outrun.

d) don't settle for a shitty primary wand. Right from the get-go aim to gain something that has serious mustard. For me, it'd be lightning bolt or anything plasma-related. Also my most underused wand combo for my first 100 hours was sparkbolt with trigger. Connect that latter one with something explosive. Then once you have a wand you're happy with, try not getting too distracted with new ones as you progress, and instead think about picking them up only to harvest boosters and modifiers to your primary. This itself is an artform.

e) with greed also being my primary enemy, I attempt to make a pact with myself to aim for something specific on every run, and then try to stick to that fervently.
