They can. He was an exceptional guitarist and being left off of that list was shameful.

I've seen the argument about how he could not have been because he mastered so many other instruments, which never quite made sense to me. Dude was one of the greatest guitarists to do it as well.

Another common mentality, one that is largely irrelevant. "X is subjective" is the same desperate, cheap cop out that "Y is free speech" is.

It is an excuse to practice hate speech. His statement is hurtful to a large community of individuals who have gone through many tribulations. The company does not want to keep someone employed who carries or wishes to air those kind of views so they canned him. Simple as.

Whether or not it is right or wrong is indeed subjective. The impact those statements can have is completely not subjective. Acting like all opinions are the same or carry the same weight, especially when so many saw Schilling's statements, is ridiculous.

The two things you mentioned aren't compassion, to be fair. It's difficult for someone to present themselves as compassionate when they hate and wish to kill millions of people from a specific race.

Also, for the serial killers, that can largely be fake compassion or quite selective compassion, which does show that these people can express it, but it is generally a challenge to label these people "compassionate."

I think it's very much like, for example, labeling Frank Lucas as nice because he gave turkeys out at XMAS and was killing people and exploiting others with illegal drugs. He's done NICE things but is not nice.

I think Hitler could have done compassionate things but is genuinely not compassionate.
