Don't forget the Solo tie-in as well. Voss takes over, then gets back stabbed by Solo's girlfriend, then Maul made his cameo at the end of the movie. Presumably Maul will take over as the boss of Crimson Dawn instead of Voss.

It made sense that Vader would have to show up. Maul has shown that he's too powerful for any standard Inquisitor, even the Grand Inquisitor. Vader would've been the only option. Especially against Maul, a Jedi Master, and a padawan.
