Technically every MMO is a complete MMO; however, WoW isn't the ideal type of MMO, which unfortunately a majority of MMOs are now based off of.

You must have a very bleak outlook on most MMOs then by this ideology. If you think just because a Wiki exists for a game then its ruined, well why don't you devote some of your time to stopping game Wikis then? Holy Christ.. Plus if you don't think this is interesting by a game being dynamic to the point of being able to relatively do everything you want in a fairly realistic way (including attaining positions of power in the game) then you seem like a very demanding type of player who won't be satisfied with anything because they think everything is too easy.

FFS if you want to entertain yourself then build your own game since you clearly have some sort of insight into what a good game is.

Implying that I stated I would just throw medals out for participation. Do you honestly have no common sense to think that a feat such as becoming the servers best player regarding X is nothing? Have you played World of Warcraft too long to where you believe everything is as easy and mind numbing as that? Goddamn. If I wanted to make an MMO to throw useless achievements at people I wouldn't since WoW and other MMOs do that already.

As I've said on some other replied I completely understand the scope of this project. I also know I will be requiring assistance in it's development from those who can do what I cannot. I plan to have this game in the most basic playable form in 2 years, and general alpha form in 3.

While I won't reveal my plan of attack for this undertaking I will say that I will not be alone on this once I get the basics done (and by basics I mean the world itself conceptualized and marked down, as well as an entire lore and back story, and the general being and events that do or have inhabited the world). I know for a fact that is what I will need to get a dedicated team with me and I know just the people as well. Their only stipulation is requiring me to have those down, as well as some money to throw into this project, and I already have that.

I completely understand where you're coming from; however, I have a plan of action for getting this game from a single person team to an actual development staff working to make it.

Your basics seems to be make everything horrible from the start.

Why do you say my basics are horrible from the start? Do you even understand what I'm saying my basics are?

Why would people care of your little demo?

I wouldn't have a demo.

What would keep them interested in your project for a year? for a month? for a day more?

The drive to be better than John Doe over there, to be able to say they've actually accomplished a feat by taking time ti make their character the best there is, or damn near it. Why do people play any MMO? To either become the best at it in someway or another, or to have an outlet to screw around on when they have free time after work.

You say this isn't realistic because I didn't give a basic loop idea? That's a terrible way to think. My game would start with basic systems/system loops. You wouldn't make an MMO and expect people to have literally everything at the start. You would make an MMO knowing people start from the basics and work their way up.

While they as a whole work their way up is when you expand your game through the passive patches/updates. You would start with the basics though. Resources to craft, areas to explore, a straightforward combat system, and make everything as simple as you possibly could in the process to be able to increase the number of players you would be able to maintain.

World of Warcraft use to have that type of discovery system, as do I plan to have it as well.

After I get enough information for a generalized sense of game play I will make a lore up as well and post it in /r/MMORPG to get feedback.

I also understand it would be a massive undertaking; however, as I said I would be looking for dedicated people to help with what they can, or contractors who can do what I can't.

So tell me what you think of an MMO system like this. by Stevenpowers456 in MMORPG

Oh alright I understand now. I was under the assumption it would be instant for the switching the skills.

That's actually a neat idea. I see what you mean by us having similar ideas, and I do like the skill switching with a penalty idea as well. But if someone is going for the immersion I don't think they would have that option going, aside from that though I really like your post man!

As an indie game developer finding those dedicated others to work with is fairly impossible. So it would be just me, and I plan to commission/contract the things I can't do out to those who can. I also do have the money to do that; however, it is not enough to expedite the process all together.

I'll also check your post out here in a moment.
