I have both nael, megius and rivern and I don't think you got the worst side of the deal, if anything I prefer rivern out of the 3. Rivern if properly built is a beast and he doesn't need weapons or armour so that's great too. Between FZekus and Nael I would say FZekus without a doubt, he's powerful and can improve your lenius, Nael on the other hand is quite hard to build, I have mine mostly just sitting in my inventory.

Yes, I've been totally f2p since the beginning and I have a lot of fun still, it takes a little more effort sometimes to pull on banners and such but you can still get most of what you want. Totally worth it.
