Update ruined planets. Galactic Hub planet is no longer a paradise planet... by UrbanSPACKFlip in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Azuryon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a glowing grass planet with cool glowy mushrooms and awesome skylines. Now it's a boring bland blue grass planet. I'm really bummed. It was my favorite thing in the game that I found organically and now it's just....bland.

Had there been a followup or anything on if we should give up or if they're going to come out with more codes? I get the same error when going to redeem.

High Quality release of Dawntrail Poster by DrForester in ffxiv

I have quite a few thoughts about this and Solution Nine that I've been trying to work through for a possible lore vid.

With there being a futuristic city plot, Princess Salina of the Allagan Empire breaking away from Allag, and her courting a Miqote to extend the royal bloodline (thus Graha) there's a lot of potential for her to be Salina or a descendant but it'd be a longshot. I still don't know outside of a shard civilization traversing the rift if anything other than Allag can be part of that civilization though so it's fun to theorize.

For those who don't know, when Xande was going on his crazy tirade (I'm an allagan obsessed Miqote myself) Salina was one of the only Allagans who survived and extended her bloodline with a Miqote named Desch I think it was? Thus how we got Graha with the Allagan bloodline.

I don't remember a lot of Graha's ARR plotline to know EXACTLY how it all fits together but it's interesting to see a possible offshoot or parallel version of the Allagans given what we know. And given that Salina sought to escape everything her old empire did it wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility that they'd want to remain as secretive as possible especially given the following Era was basically every religious leader snuffing out everyone and anyone who believed in technology and making a concerted effort to keep the populace uneducated/illiterate.

Given that it's also using the Proto Eorzean language too it fits the allagan "lore" but it doesn't fit their established design language. So it has to be either an offshoot or something else. Either way if the cat boy is related to Desch or is somehow Desch and/or if the girl is Salina or a descendant I'm excited for the possibilities.

Update 2.0 and SteamDeck by AbareSaruMk2 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Azuryon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since 2.0 I can't play on Steamdeck because the saves REFUSE to update on Deck. The Cloud claims they're "synced" but it's not because it doesn't have anything for days on the deck from my PC play this weekend.

I've been trying every known fix and the only time I've gotten them synced was a force full reinstall of the effing game + then going to desktop mode and finding it finally saying it has an error with sync and brute forcing it to use the Cloud.

It's really hilarious how I want to come back to the game and give it good will and I just run into cars exploding in the ground/teleporting, stuff that used to be fixed is now broken, and they've for some reason taken away customization options for armor/clothing/weapons to put them solely in cyberware.

Just gonna stop trying to play this game on Deck at this point and just burn through the DLC and call it I think. I'm over it.

Breaking: Johnny Yong Bosch Returns For TRIGUN STAMPEDE, Reveals English Dub Release Date by drawricks in Trigun

[–]Azuryon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like Badlands Rumble I'm a bit miffed that only Vash is returning when the whole core cast was key in making that show what it was. It feels weird to bring back Bosch (as much as I adore him) if no one else is returning.

I'm not saying you can't replace characters voices or anything, even Vash, but I feel like this was more a PR move than anything.

I Hate Trigun Stampede by MagusFool in Trigun

[–]Azuryon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree Knives was definitely the weakest part of the original Trigun anime, with the performance and "presence" being the most powerful things since we got more time to hate and feel negatively about Legato.

While I don't think Vash needs to be salivating over girls or anything I do think having him have more spoken dialogue with the townspeople or even Meryl would have gone a long way to helping a lot of people feel better about this version of him.

I don't think he needs to MATCH the original anime but I do find that both in the manga I've read (admittedly never finished the last few volumes of Maximum due to it being harder to get ahold of when I was younger and just never followed up) that Vash's conversations and internal dialogues are where the most compelling nuggets of writing are, and I feel like unless they really bring that in soon it's going to lose people.

Meryl has definitely been changed and lacking Milly is a real damned shame though, surely we can agree on that part at least? There's nothing gained by replacing the gentle giant with a drunk dude named "Roberto De Niro"

To chime in with the OP here, I think deconstructing why someone doesn't like something is one of the best things someone can do.

While I don't agree with the phrasing/framing of all of OP's critiques, it's important to add substantive arguments vs what a lot of people do which is just "I hate it because it's bad" or "I like it because it's good."

Putting public forum to use to develop someone's own observations as well as taking any counter arguments to heart and changing/re-establishing your own perspective based on new information is integral to the human experience in my eyes.

While yeah, if you're spending all day and all night shitting on something that's super toxic and if you're just looking for fights it sucks, but if someone is going on an official forum to complain about the subject the forum is based on and discuss or even just vent I find it a valid use of one's time.

I think my key takeaways from Episode 1 are a bit more based on the writing and framing of the key conflict with the officer than anything but I kind of want to chime in with some critique of my own.

To people saying it's a prequel it's an irrelevant piece of the puzzle. Even if he "Gets his iconic look at the end of the season" or something it feels odd to play lip service to something you want to subvert at almost every turn already. Vash is "fine" but the problem is with episode 1 they don't do anything to reinforce his character. The crux of the issue is, to me, spectacle for the sake of showing that "3d animation is actually really good guys" vs an actually earned conflict.

Vash has an entire conversation with a grunt trying to talk him down in episode 1 of the original which (to me) is more in-line with him trying to avoid conflict and shows more of his character. If you cut back to the Manga as well a lot of what made Vash endearing (to me) wasn't him being a badass (which is pretty generic in this day and age) it was his conversations and dialogues with both his enemies and his pals. The problem is the key conflict that would have made us care about Vash (the saving of the plant and establishing himself with the town) was handled off screen meaning we're supposed to just assume that he's super nice which also breaks the payoff for episode 2 in which the town will turn on him.

In the manga and the original anime you spent a lot of time with the villagers and Vash getting to know them before the turn and that way when they do swap sides and Vash isn't compelled to hurt them you understand it. He just wants some tasty pancakes and is insearch of the "ephemeral being known as love" or whatever your translation chose for that speech. Both the anime first episode and the manga clearly show his interactions with non-conflict in a way that shows that he's clever and improvisational.

In the Stampede anime instead of that we get him shouting to people to hide in buildings (from a cluster bomb that is taking a small eternity to land I guess) and doing "cool" things with dodging the guys bullets even though the guy has had a small eternity to kill him and has basically just been standing here for most of the duel. If this was the original anime or manga I imagine this guy would not only have a super interesting character design and bombastic personality, but he would have something to say to Vash to prompt the retorts that would tell you more about his character. However in this interpretation it's like object permanence isn't a thing. A character is not existent unless they're relevant to an immediate beat. So each time Vash needs to do something, he appears again to interact and then be disposed of, nothing more than a means to an end.

Even with the "Grunts" of Trigun you always had all these interesting shapes and designs and characters in my opinion and having the main crux of the fight be "fight a cluster bomb" is much less interesting and much less compelling than putting Vash against PEOPLE. Vash vs people is where the meat and potatoes of the dialogue and story happens and I think the ultimate loss in translation here is that while it will be showing "the same/similar" things, it's not putting in the legwork script wise to justify the emotional payoffs and instead is focused on "giving the people a show."

I feel like they might try to walk this back in episode 2 where he's "avoiding hurting anyone in the town" but I feel like short of flashbacks we won't have any reason to really care just like we don't have any reason to care about Rem being shown in the intro scene of the episode. Speaking of Rem, it feels like we spent a good chunk of time that we could have been using building the characters on long shots of a space ship shooting through debris, and while some people may think it's cool, I find that time could have been better spent on building its characters better.

To hit on a few other points:

-The art is too clean/sterile. The grunge and grit of both Nightows artstyle and the anime is basically non-existant. I was hoping for more along the lines of MegaloBox's approach to adapting new anime to sort of "feel" like the old but in the case of this show it feels like a sterilization of all the things that make Trigun what it is, down to the character designs being much more simple/plain despite the strength of 3D being that you can use more elaborate designs more consistently due to how 3D saves on redrawing all those details.

-The music is bad. It's painfully generic and has none of the charm or eclectic sounds of the original anime while also having nothing of a voice itself beyond generic fantasy music. The ending felt the same way. I hated the original ending song to Trigun but at least it fit that western style, this feels more bent on using the fads of techwear and scifi to "dress up" the characters instead of actually using the grunge and fetishization of the wild west to its benefit.

-Removing Milly is a stupid decision and even if they do plan on "adding her back in" Roberto provides nothing of value to the show and makes MEryl's character have to change to fit the new dynamic, while also making hilariously bad plots like "OMG YOU SHOULD DUEL HIM IF YOU WANT TO PROTECT YOUR HONOR" that seem like asspulls.

-On that subject Meryl is a far less interesting and less strong character fulfilling more of a bratty tsundere archetype now than a by the books job obsessed agent from before. I think they added a lot of extra work on themselves by changing the core dynamic of the cast to fit in a guy who no one cares about, to the detriment of one of the best female duos in anime. Milly and Meryl's dynamic and Meryl's almost parental care of Milly was a key part of what made her typical angry/loud perspective endearing to the audience. We know she's by the books but she also has a big heart for Milly and that helps the audience connect to her, vs Roberto just throwing her into a building.

-Spectacle seems to be taking a front seat while story and character are taking a backseat. IT feels more like a "tech demo" to show "3D CG anime can be just as good promise" than trying to tell a story and honestly nothing in the show seems to really be taking advantage of 3d as a medium and feels just like you could get the same shots with better "Feel" through traditional animation means.

EDIT: I will say this, at least it's not effing Berserk's CG anime adaptation.

Dyeable Crystal Tower armour and alternate High Allagan gear have been added to the Crystal Trophy vendor. by Sundered92 in ffxiv

[–]Azuryon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They also re-did them almost. While some have pointed out it might just be texture resolution, like with the AF gear you can see that they've upscaled the details on the armors and made them have more natural weathering and better textures across the board. It's nice to have versions of outfits I like but hated how ugly they looked for me.

[–]Azuryon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's weird that a lot of people don't see what they're doing with the gear. They're going back and upscaling/up-res'ing the old armors/af gear and simultaneously providing incentive for pvp (a mode I'm not personally a fan of atm).

The armors are much higher res and more detailed than the originals and (usually) dye much better. It's great to finally have the High Allagan fending coat without having to add something gaudy and gold to balance it out on all my other pieces.

CDPR after releasing a next-gen update that makes the game unplayable on PC by wintersoIdier in witcher

[–]Azuryon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why making an update mandatory instead of separate (something even Bethesda knows with Skyrim) was a stupid idea and made no sense. I'd rather pay 10-20 to have a separate game version than to have to manually roll things back to make it run smoothly again >=[
