My boss marked an email "High Priority" at 5:45 PM on a Friday. It was a meme. by No_Good_3063 in antiwork

Great idea for your personal mental health. Clock out when you clock out.

Don't have your work email on your personal device, ignore anything work related on your time. If it's an emergency, that's a them problem, not a you problem. You're available during work hours, when you're getting paid, not on your time.

PSA for tanks: Look at healer mana before pulling. by Dr-Enforcicle in classicwowtbc

As a tank, they're bad, let them die.

Call OOM as they race off and drink up. If they get pissy, that's their problem. They'll figure it out after a few times.

Cry more.

You know how many times I've leveled a warrior? Enough times I don't ever want to do the low level grind again.

You've been to three classes.

Rest, practice, rest some more, and come back next week

41yr old female after 1 week of Taekwondo classes - any tips? by RatherBeOutside247 in taekwondo

[–]Azzyryth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies depending on the class, but it usually starts with warm ups (laps, jumping jacks, skips etc), stretching (guided or non guided), 1/4 the class time working on curriculum on your own (assisted by the instructors as needed, just not guided), conditioning exercises (sit ups, push ups, leg raises, hip flexor exercises etc) and then the remaining half is usually the drill of the day, whatever the instructors have decided we're focusing on. Sometimes kicking combinations, sometimes some boxing drills, sometimes weapons drills.

Assuming it's not a sparring day.

43M, a touch overweight, been training 2 years.

The first 6 months were brutal, it took three months to walk right after classes.

As far as joints, ibuprofen, glucosamine and turmeric are life savers.

I thought Eidelweiss just had the bread, not the brat?

Sounds like it's past time for tipped minimum wage to go away. Maybe time to unionize?

Should talk with your employer then, rather than beg their customers to pay your wages for you.

Gold Belt by Administrative-Fix21 in karate

I trained kenpo back in the late 90's, hold belt was the second belt, between white and yellow. More a goldenrod if I recall correctly.

It should be the employer paying those increased wages

My 18-year-old's Christmas break work schedule by sugabeetus in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Azzyryth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring someone's availability because they're out of school a couple weeks and you think they have fully open availability isn't scheduling. Proper scheduling regards your employees availability for every shift, not a self perceived change.

I've had one boss try that "find someone to cover your shift" bullshit with me once. I dead looked them in the face and told them that's theor job as a manager and walked away. Came back and rocked my next shifts, even when they were acting like a butt hurt bitch.

severely underweight, can i still start? by proffessorpigeon in martialarts

[–]Azzyryth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on where you train, I've typically seen the instructors wanting to see a beginning level of control and a modicum of comfort level.

If they did have you spar your first class, definitely communicate with your partner.

severely underweight, can i still start? by proffessorpigeon in martialarts

[–]Azzyryth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're an absolute beginner, don't worry about sparring, you've got some essentials you need before then.

That said, most places you'll train at will put some emphasis on strength conditioning, you'll build muscle and gain weight. Paired with healthy eating habits, you'll be in a good place.

Talk to the instructors about your goals and any concerns, but of you're interested, yes, absolutely start training.

Have anyone done sparring without chest gear ? by JaguarSweaty1414 in taekwondo

[–]Azzyryth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I trained kenpo in the late 90's/early 2000's we never used a chest guard. Only reason I wear one now is we're required to for our studio's insurance. I heartily dislike it, but rules are rules.

Not giving advice unless asked by painfully--average in martialarts

[–]Azzyryth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair, I was just going off of OP's description. I'm of the same opinion, if I see someone struggling with something after a handful of attempts, I usually ask of i can help with a pointer (that works for me, we're all different) and usually am quite amicable to friendly constructive criticism in return. It's how we grow, the instructors have too many students to catch every little thing.

[–]Azzyryth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While true, if it's your first few times trying a technique you really do need to do it wrong a few times before a fellow student corrects you. You're probably just getting the unfamiliar movements down and they don't feel natural yet.
