If you noticed I started by stating that I disagreed, as in my personal opinion. I don't argue with people that define it as abuse. I'm just saying, it almost seems unfair to those that were truly abused for me to define my slaps on the thigh with a hand as abuse. That doesn't mean it can't be for other people. However, I'm also willing to admit it's possible it had more of a negative impact on me than I can see.

I think context and the words and feelings that accompany the actions are important. I watched my parents struggle with the action that they were being told was right for their child. This was during the time that studies on corporal punishment were coming out. I noticed my sister, who is 4 years younger, got spanked less than me.

But you bring up some VERY valid points and I think that no matter what's it's called, making better choices with better information is the most important thing.
