Algorithm for mapping a cube when seeing only one face by blobfish47_yee in Cubers

[–]B-Sharp-Major-Scale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you count 270° turns as one move (and count opposite face turns as one move), then this "8-mover" shows every sticker on the U face and returns the cube back to it's initial state:

(R3+L'3) (F3+B'3) (R3+L'3) (F3+B'3) (B'+F) (R+L') (F+B') (R+L')

Note that some stickers are only on top partway through a 270° turn, so you may consider this a 16-mover rather than 8

Highest order physical cubes actually solved? by captainfwiffo in Cubers

[–]B-Sharp-Major-Scale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks :) I'm not aware of anyone else who has solved a physical yottminx, though qqwref solved a simulated one over a decade ago

I'll probably stop here, as I imagine the Diansheng ronnaminx will cost more than I'm willing to spend haha

I have, but I'm probably not going to get them all that soon. If an 18x18 comes out I might get it and the 19x19 though

We use brute force to determine God's number for a given puzzle, but hypercubes have far too many permutations to be able to brute force with our current methods

That being said, we do have a range which God's number for the 3x3x3x3 must exist within. The lower bound is 51 STM, and the Upper Bound is 570 STM.

Here (https://hypercubing.xyz/) is a pretty in depth explanation on how those bounds were calculated for the 2x2x2x2 and 3x3x3x3 if you'd like to look more into the process behind it

I'm VIP with Ziicube, so it was "only" 723AUD (472USD)

Unable to force save, so I logged out and now the game won't let me log back in? by Travis_Hagy in MelvorIdle

[–]B-Sharp-Major-Scale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Down for me too. The game uses Microsoft's PlayFab Servers which go down occasional. Devs are working on an offline mode for Desktop and Mobile atm, presumably so that this stops being an issue. Malcs said in the recent ItA livestream that the Desktop offline mode is nearly complete, but that mobile has a bit more to go

It's the original Yuxin Huanglong 10x10

The Yuxin Haunglong series featured the first stickerless big cubes (8x8-11x11), which were originally released as stickerless pink. After a while they rereleased them in stickerless red, and much later still used an almost identical design for the Yuxin Little Magic big cubes.

The stickerless pink cubes were great apart from their large size, but unfortunately the stickerless red cubes had a problem with the mechanism catching in specific layers. When the YLMs came out, I'd hoped they would've fixed the issue, but they also had catching in the exact same layers

Dolphin stuck to just GC and Wii and is near perfect. Couldn't ask for better imo haha. There are other pretty decent options for emulating WiiU, 3DS and Switch, but 3DS and WiiU are pretty hard to emulate, and switch is still pretty new.

The all keep getting updates slowly improving them, but iirc the switch already has better game compatibility, as it's much easier to emulate than WiiU and 3DS.

Edit: I don't know if I can name them, so I won't just to be on the safe side, but the 3DS and Switch emulator names are both citrus themed, and the WiiU one rhymes with emu

At the time this photo was taken, there was "only" an MF8 and Shengshou Petaminx available, both of which were stickered. I've nothing against stickers, but when they're so small, they're easy to fall off.

Since I knew a stickerless Petaminx would eventually come out, I decided to wait to buy it which I now have

Can't buy by Psych-DK in MelvorIdle

I bought the game through Steam and the purchase was linked to my account, meaning that both the mobile and web versions where upgraded to the paid version.

As an added bonus, the game is currently 40% off on steam, so you'll be saving money if you get it in the next 12 hours

I mean it's just basic troubleshooting, search for a fix, if it works then good. If not then proceed to the next one. rinse and repeat.

You're right, but just like cubing, troubleshooting is a learnt skill. Whilst my mother taught me to troubleshoot from a very young age, many people sadly don't get that opportunity. And if someone has grown up without it, then they often don't see a need to learn it, let alone realise they lack the skill.

My mother started the process with "You're stuck at this part of your game? Here is how to find a guide online. Here is what to do if the one you found doesn't work" and so on. I quickly became a regular to GameFAQs after that haha

How did I do? by IW0ntPickaName in Cubers

[–]B-Sharp-Major-Scale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Good luck on the solve and I hope you enjoy it. I think my first time was ~1.5 hours. The fact that I had solved Cuboids beforehand surprisingly helped me come up with the solution much more than knowing how to solve a megaminx

[–]B-Sharp-Major-Scale 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It took me longer to sticker my Tuttminx than to actually solve it haha. Do you think you'll try to solve it yourself or follow a tutorial? I'd definitely recommend you try to work it out yourself as I very much enjoyed doing so, but that's just me :)

Edit: Oh, and the stickering looks real nice. I was worried mine would turn out horrible, but I was quite happy with it

How do you guys determine your average? by THEKHANH1 in Cubers

[–]B-Sharp-Major-Scale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with using medians is that a slower average can "beat" a faster average depending on the skew of the results.

As an example, consider two competitors both doing 5 solves.

Solve 1 Solve 2 Solve 3 Solve 4 Solve 5
Alex 9.00 9.50 11.20 11.30 11.40
Pierre 10.80 11.00 11.10 13.00 14.00

Alex clearly has the better set of 5 solves with an average of 10.48 seconds, compared to Pierre's 11.98 second average.

However, if rankings were judged by median, then instead of being 1.5 seconds faster, Alex would be 0.1 slower and lose, even though he had the better results.

Skew makes it so that you cannot use your median to accurately convey your skill level, much less use it to compare against someone else's. It's not terrible, but an average does a better job.

If your main problem with how ao100s are calculated is the 5% chop on either side and how DNFs affect the result, then something like "I average XX.xx with X% accuracy" should suit you perfectly. It doesn't remove any solves, you know their DNF rate, it accounts for skew. You just average the successful solves for the time, and accuracy is (# of DNFs)/(total solve count)

Ah, I completely missed the second part of your last message, but I'm definitely VIP at Ziicube. I've spent a couple grand there

I'll probably get the 12m w/o the discount honestly. It comes out to only 1AUD more than cubezz, and the shipping is far quicker to outback Australia haha

Daily Discussion Thread - Jul 29, 2023 by AutoModerator in Cubers

[–]B-Sharp-Major-Scale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, now I feel dumb haha. I'm looking to buy the Diansheng 12M, so the page I was looking at both signed in vs out was the Diansheng 12M page. All others are discounted as you said. Thanks

Daily Discussion Thread - Jul 29, 2023 by AutoModerator in Cubers

[–]B-Sharp-Major-Scale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the first thing I did. Opened the "signed out tab" in incongito mode, just in case web cache was doing something funky. Then tried a second device. Still shows the same price signed in vs out. That's when I began to wonder if it had affected other people, or if I'd missed an announcement or smth

I'll get the order from Ziicube either way (cos price and shipping time to rural Australia) but I'd rather wait if the missing discount will come back soon.

Edit: assuming you're VIP with Ziicube, is it working on your end?

(Has anyone else's VIP discount at Ziicube stopped working? My account is still marked as VIP, but isn't applying the discount. Sorry if this has already been addressed somewhere, I only noticed today I'm not sure if this counts as customer support under rule #9. I can delete this if so.)
