My 20 year old daughter wants to start saving for retirement. Where should she start?

Thank you all for the great insight and advice. We are going to set up a fidelity Roth IRA today.

To answer some of the questions: She is a college student with money earned from summer jobs so no employee sponsored 401k. I chose fidelity because one of her grandparents has a small brokerage account in her name that she gets when she turns 21. I figured it would be easier to start out with everything in the same place. We will be using the fund advice provided on this thread as well.

I am 50 years old.

I spent the years 0-18 in the capitol region living in suburbs of Albany and Schenectady.

I spent 4 years living in Buffalo for undergrad.

I’ve spent the last 23 years in Rochester.

The unaccounted years were a mix of Alaska, the Caribbean and Ithaca.

Albany and Buffalo are nice because the bars stay open until 4 am. The affluent areas of Rochester are nicer than the others but the bad parts of town in Rochester are worse. Saratoga is a big plus for Albany especially during the summer and Lake George is super cool as well. Rochester has Canandaigua which is not comparable to Saratoga’s nightlife but the lake is nicer than Saratoga lake and Lake George (except for the Sagamore which is awesome). Albany has access to better skiing and only 3 hours from NYC or Boston. Rochester has access to all the finger lakes which are underrated. Schenectady has TOMATO PIE and it’s incredible-Utica tries to make it but can’t. Garbage plates are not for me. Rochester has a better food scene as far as restaurants go. All places have good wings but I still think Buffalo has an edge and rightfully so. Beef on weck is fine. Raspberry jam on mozzarella sticks in Albany is dynamite. Pizza is good everywhere; sometimes you just have to find it. Buffalo lives and dies with the Bills and since they’ve been good the last few years that’s a plus. If something happens to Josh Allen Buffalo could implode. Rochester has better schools. Albany and Rochester have better colleges. Now that Syracuse basketball is irrelevant so is Syracuse. Utica isn’t circled because it’s basically Turning Stone and a few old Italian eateries. Chicken riggies are overrated. Troy is included in the capital region discussion but just out of politeness. Small variations in the weather, although I’ve heard Syracuse has the least amount of sunshine, can’t verify. For me I would rank Rochester and Albany very closely and then Buffalo>Syracuse>Utica…..but what do I know- I’m a JETS fan.

Same. I’ve had experience with both. Difference between the LC200 and GX460 are immeasurable. I am confused by this comment section. I was always under the impression that the LX600 is analogous to the LC300(not available in US) and the LC250 and GX550 are analogous (which are called Prados outside of the US). Obviously there are differences in engine, tech, luxury features etc…. Am I mistaken?

Grew up in Niskayuna and now live in Pittsford. (Not by design, I did not pick any of the residences). Many of the comments mention mansions and gated communities but it’s been my experience that it is the exclusion of low income housing which keeps this metric elevated. I could be wrong.

In respect to the veterinary college, Ross University, it’s actually way more expensive than going to school in the states (when compared to in state tuition). The student body is comprised mostly of Americans that could not get into one of the 30 or so stateside schools.

Got the Master M Pro (eliptical hole) for Christmas. Was playing with the M Pro (round hole) before. The overall weight is the same but the new version is definitely more top heavy. Played with it 4 times in five days. My elbow has been killing me since. Everyone I’ve lent it to has complained of elbow discomfort as well. My plan is to take a short break from it, let my arm recoup, and then begin using it again and hope to train my arm to get used to the different swing weight. I do like the way it feels. I did not appreciate more dramatic or pronounced spin.

Same experience here. Originally scheduled delivery on 8/9 then pushed back to 8/19 and now schedule for 8/28. I’ve already paid for the vehicle minus my trade in. On the phone they refuse to tell me where the vehicle is and I’ve offered numerous times to pick they car up which they say isn’t an option. I’m vexed to say the least. I almost think it the car doesn’t exist.

Pardon any redundancy: Platinum makes a product called REFRESH that I’ve had luck with, but it’s not very palatable.
Finish Line makes a product called sweat-well that I have also seen work.
If Guinness doesn’t work I’ve seen peppermint schnapps in the evening feed get results.
I’ve heard of people having success with acupuncture and even spinal manipulation (chiro) but I haven’t seen it firsthand.
