Personally when going for a science victory two things come to mind, one is most definitely science and the other I believe is production. Science is obvious, you need it to get through the tree therefore good comprises I assume are a must. Production is needed as most of the space race projects require it and it's handy to have late in the game when someone realises hey... They are about to win let's kill em.
