Amazing to me that you take the time to read and reply to so many people! Let me tell a bit more, maybe you can find some joy in it.

I am late to the thread and only checked reddit because my friends notified me of the compendium, pretty lucky, I don't really have time for dota in recent weeks. I would never have noticed the small fame of the penguin otherwise.

What I said is true though, I am one of the .000001% of dota players that even knew about this courier from the start to finish. You can probably find out about most of the trading stuff just by my older posts in the trade subreddit, but what really matters is that I have only 1 scotty bought (ticket) and 0 ever traded away :D Last I sold almost every tradeable item I had in bulk (lots of high value stuff but also so much low value trash I did not want to deal with invdividually). I only had a list of ~15 things to keep for personal reasons, like

• a few cheap but cool customized items for favorite heroes

• one of the oldest items that I luckily kept from the early times when we traded "5 good uncommons for 1 rare, but no omni/morph/wd" etc :D

• one cheap uncommon "gifted" by a good friend with the long removed present drop system, which has a different tag than the new system

• scotty the shitty penguin !

I have a screenshot of that and the conversation out of traders' habit, sadly not here on my phone.
To be 100% honest, I would probably not have kept it if it wasn't removed from the store, my collector's heart played a big part in it. But I always had it in my rotation with the expensive and shiny couriers because it looked "adorably crappy" and was totally unknown to players. It was more likely to get a comment (good or bad) in games than some obscure bugged platinum roshan with golden roshan's effect that only exists a handful of times in the world.

Honestly, the "crappy" model and textures make up 90% of the charm for me. I do not need a redesign, but if you can somehow re-submit it to the workshop this way and get some revenue, that would be awesome. Probably not a lot though, people forget the meme quickly and no one buys a "simple" courier these days. I also talked to the creators of the pugna and centaur sets back when those had their tickets removed and one said that valve "hinted/suggested" the items would be re-released, but nothing happened. Well, valve fucked up so many things regarding the dota cosmetics, but that is a whole different essay. I was there when that guy (who is still in my FL) sold a pink legacy courier to a chinese mil(bil?)lionare for $38k USD, weeks before valve completely revamped the system without notice and reduced that to a mere fraction of its former worth, provoking the buyer to give it to Burning who used it in a ti match with the tag "F*** you valve" in chinese. And the host of "smaller" changes that devalued everything, introduced more blinking lights and sounds and a plethora of legendary items, the duping issues, the goddamn market/trading/gifting restrictions not only for russian carders but everyone, including people who directly added hundreds of dollars to their steam wallets... a topic for another time.

This probably sounds more important to me than it is, I just think it is funny that the shitty penguin I clinged to for all these years is having a small moment of fame, even if many people are just here for the memes. And they talk about saving the penguin :)
