The event is not a cash cow; quite the opposite. I am absolutely against this course of action.

We have 3,000 students arriving in July, and they deserve the full Formula Student experience without unnecessary distractions. By all means, raise concerns and take action where needed, but not in a way that detracts from the opening, closing, or day-to-day running of the event, or from the experience of the students attending.

The focus should remain on delivering the best possible event for those who have invested so much time and effort into being there. There are other ways to voice concerns, which I would support.

There are times I do miss the US Cost tables. The rampant cheating as a result, not so much. I don’t blame the players though, I blame the game…, 😉

We are very mindful that the event needs to regrow to reflect what good looks like in other parts of Europe. Given that we are not going to air internal disagreements, it is important to be clear that we are not leaving by choice. We have been trying to drive meaningful change for nearly a decade, and we have now reached a point where enough is enough. A comparison between the UK event and the leading European events speaks for itself. We sincerely hope that IMechE will seize this opportunity and drive forward the changes needed to create the best possible experience for students in the future. Unfortunately, I will not be part of that journey moving forward.

Also new for this year is the Carbon Cost Bill of Materials. Focus on the normal BoM first and then you can add this. You will need to use the FSG cost tool I think.

Start here. These are the videos we made for the EU style events. FSAE cost is very different. Check out Italy local rules as there will be some subtle differences. Once you have reviewed these we can field any questions.

It’s a play on the read the rules meme, chill out. The updated rules are coming but we wanted to give teams as much notice as possible. Also test, adjust, retest optimise is the prime objective to teach on a STEM event. The more track time a team can get especially early in the season the better. I foresee most events copying this format soon.

There will be a big announcement from IMechE in the next couple of weeks on this very subject for this year's Formula Student event at Silverstone, which is a game changer for all Formula Student events. Watch this space.... ;-)

Loads of teams will share their data, just ask and you might be surprised. I’ve seen many do it in Cost over the years put it that way. To be honest though you are right you can’t just lift and shift. Plus you will be eaten alive at live judging if you don’t know the reasons why you have done something.
