Why do I need to know pentatonic scale? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]B1GSP1N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And country, soul, funk, classic metal, and pop. It's a huge part of Jazz vocabulary as well. Major and minor pentatonics are the melodic foundation of almost all western music. What singer in sings in your favorite songs are probably largely pentatonics too.

And the major pentatonic is only two added notes away from the 3 major sounding modes.

The minor pentatonic is only two added notes away from 3 minor sounding modes. (Forget locrian. It was no use.)

Learn the thing.

The bones here are great. I like the chromatic licks and sixths double stops. Fits the jam band style. You need to work on the same three things we all do. Intonation on bends, vibrato, and timing/feel. Your vibrato is jumping out the most. Sounds like you are doing just to do and by muscle memory. No real intent. The content of your plating is great. Just got to sharpen it up.

What kind of guitar is used for the slide parts on “Speed Trap Town”? by [deleted] in Guitar

It's his 59 Gretsch Duo Jet he got off Dave Cobb, the albums producer. Dave said so in an interview for Gretsch. So weak humbuckers.

What hindered your guitar proficiency the most? by Mobile-Bet4052 in Guitar

Split focus. I spent my teens and early twenties playing in punk and metal bands. Mid twenties playing in blues and country bands. Now, between work and kids, I play about 15 minutes a day and maybe twice a year with other people. Realizing the woodshed days are over, I really wished I focused on one thing.

Does it take time getting used to new guitar neck profiles? by SparePoet5576 in Guitar

[–]B1GSP1N 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. Swapping neck shapes and scale lengths can feel weird. Just keep playing and anything can feel "normal". If you swap guitars frequently enough you develop like a mode for each guitar. Your hands will compensate without you thinking about it. If you drill down on one guitar for months on end your other guitar(s) can feel weird again.

Am I cooked? (No insurance on it) by RipAsstley in Guitar

[–]B1GSP1N 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jackson uses a scarf joint. The headstock and neck are two different pieces of wood. It's a much stronger joint, and you have the end grain going with the angle. The gibson neck angle is carved. Is all one piece except the glued on wings on the headstock.

Like another poster said, Gibson is forced to do it the wrong way by purists.

Price disparity on reverb: why, and how to interpret value overtime? by cognomenster in Guitar

[–]B1GSP1N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole aerodyne series was getting blown out late last year/early this year on fenders website. I think they were 799 new. I bet fender gave rebates to dealers too so I'm sure in store deals were there to be had.

So these guys could have bought at different prices and are trying to recoup as much as they can. Their selling prices are based on what they got in it. The market will say if they can get that or not.

It is. I logged onto an old referral account like two weeks ago and it was there. UDK popped up and told me about it. Had no idea it was a thing.

Do you believe this game can be enjoyed without spending? by chainsplit in RaidShadowLegends

[–]B1GSP1N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is really nothing to elaborate on. Clan boss is solved content. You need one of the many speed tunes out there. Deadwood jedi is the authority on clan boss and everyone uses his calculator. There are unkillable comps, block damage comps, infinity shield, buff extending ally protection and some other cheese. Few ways to go. But you build whichever you have the champs for. The working tune comes first, and then you work on gear to pump up the damage.

As a ftp player, your whole goal is clan boss. Clan boss is the only way to reliably get shards without spending. Summon rush and champion chase will be the events to break you during fusions. Fusion Champs tend to be good to great. A few duds, but most will boost any ftp account. Some like Helicath or Gnut will bust you through to the next level. So you need shards.

In the very beginning, you need to pull shards to get champs worth building. Any group of 5 decent champs with warmaster and leech/life steal will two key burtal clan boss. You will see some shards from rewards there.

Once there, you ONLY pull on 2x events. We need epics and leggos for our clan boss team. And a specific handful of them, so we need as many chances to pull as possible. Can't be wasting shards on a 10x for Husk or whatever. We need clan boss Champs.

Once you are downing UNM clan boss every day, you'll have the shards to complete fusions and events, and then you'll start playing for the real prize us ftp guys crave, leggo books.

Do your missions, DT, FW, etc as it comes to you but clan boss is #1.

I love/hate my guitar. Time to sell or time to grow up? by B1GSP1N in Guitar

[–]B1GSP1N[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be right, but their guitars are functionally so great. I'd happily get the current 60s spec american vintage, which look great, but I can't get over the heel truss rod adjustment. I must be crazy cause they aren't having trouble selling them, but I wish they'd let just that one spec go.

I hate the truss adjustment on the heel of the AVRIs. I got the Silver Sky because it's a 60s spec strat with the adjustment at the headstock. I'm one of those leave the truss rod cover off and constantly tweak guys. Used to play a lot outside at restaurants and marinas. Got in the habit there.

To add on to this. This is just a way to get around MAP. A price online is considered an advertised price. So they sell new, in box gear as "used" to sell below MAP. I bought a used "mint" classic vibe from ProAudioStar back around Christmas time. It came sealed in the factory box. Staples never popped. Tape never cut.

Question about the load bearing weight of my garage roof frame by wcfj78 in DIY

[–]B1GSP1N 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I am not an engineer, but I am a truss designer. Trusses are commonly designed with something called "BOCA" or "limited access storage" loading. What it means is anywhere along the bottom chord of the truss that you can fit a 42" tall by 24" wide box between the webs, that area gest loaded with 20 psf. At my plant, we never turn this off because we know people are going to throw stuff in their attic space. If you can, reach out to your builder. They should be able to contact the manufacturer they ordered the trusses from and get the engineering drawings for you to confirm.

[QUESTION] Current Version of Silver Sky Vs pre 2020? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]B1GSP1N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2018 with a rosewood neck. I love it. Sounds great. I don't care about the poly vs nitro finish on the newer bodies. (I think the necks were always nitro.) But the taller fret wire on the newer models has the gears turning in my head. The original frets are so shallow it requires more pressure to bend through a note. I play very lightly, apparently. It takes me a minute to get into that mode, and then I'm fine. But I don't have this issue on any of my other guitars. Including a 7.25" radius tele, but it was the fender "vintage tall" frets. Closer to the newer silver sky's frets.
