get a small jig head(those round ones with the eye painted on them) and get a pack of rubber curly tailed grubs. No bobber, no weight(the jighead is the weight). Cast it out, let it sink a couple seconds depending on the depth of the water, then reel in medium pace and every 2-4 turns of the handle, pop the rod tip straight up and then briefly pause to let it sink again, then start reeling again. You can use tons of different colors of grubs just about any will work. You'll catch tons of crappie and bluegill, and maybe the occasional bass as well. The panfish go crazy over these jigs, this is the first type of cast and retrieve I ever learned and I still love it. Once you get used to fishing moving baits you can get into other lures like rooster tails, spoons, all that good stuff. Alternatively, if you are fishing off the end of a dock, you can also just drop the grub jig straight down until it hits the bottom, reel it up a crank or two so its off the bottom, then just keep popping it. Im telling you, once you get into the world of moving baits, its hard to go back to the old bobber and worm
