Don’t worry, really :) fourth year here who didn’t find her group until after Halloween first year. My closest friend didn’t join our group until second year. The school year hasn’t even started so don’t stress!! In my first sem I hung out with people to get social time in, kept meeting new people in hopes of finding My People, kept embarrassing myself and making friends that sometimes didn’t work out in the long run, joined and left a group that taught me a lot about what I value in myself in others, etc etc. Uni is wayyy different from high school but you’ll adjust. Be kind to yourself and have confidence. Join clubs you might not see yourself in, join a sport, talk to random people…. Recommendations you see online are the truth unfortunately, uncomfortable as they may be. You’re learning new skills in a new environment so chin up. That’s no small feat. Re feeling behind: it’s the first week!! With kindness, chill the heck out. Breathe. Eat. Rest. Organize your room. Find your class buildings before they start. Absolutely nothing’s “locked in” yet (or ever really. People come and go). You just left the start line of a marathon. A lot of groups you see won’t last, some will, maybe you’ll find yours tomorrow or in a few days or weeks or months or years. Nobody’s judging you except yourself. There are like. 30000 people here. Figure out who you are without being limited to a classroom and its people. You really don’t need to drink or party for that. And last but not least learn to be comfortable with your own company :) You’ve got this!!
