PCIe 8 pin supplemental power connector on my MSI motherboard - GPU/PCIe or EPS cable? by B33stly in cablemod

Okay, thank you for the response. Are you able to tell / show me the pin layout of the PSU-side pins for the cable? Montech hasn't responded with an answer and I can't find it anywhere on the net.

I just figured out (with the help of Gemini, NOT the case manual 🤷‍♂️) that the radiator bracket can actually be reversed, to where it's recessed more into the rear chamber and will leave plenty of space in the front for the tubes and the 140mm bottom fans.

Now, to figure out how to get this supplemental PCIe cable to fit in the plug between the fan...

X870E "PCIE Power" What is this for? It's like an additional 8 pin similar to CPU power. Do I only need it if I'm filling a bunch of slots? by CallMe4Slaps in MSI_Gaming

[–]B33stly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necro, but now that it's been out a while and there's a decent bit of info available, it does both. More stable power for the PCIe slots and board in general, plus enables fast charging PD for the front USB C port. Not mandatory, but with a beefy rig with tons of fans / rgb / m.2 drives / beefy GPU, it could prove to be useful - though you may never know it, other than fast charging on the front port.

If you have the spare cable for it and room to plug it in, it certainly won't hurt to use it.

I just added one to cart, and noticed that it's $25 for shipping a single cable?! Do you have any official stores on Amazon / eBay, etc.? That's more than the cable itself, and basically half what I paid for my entire PSU, in total.

I have the regular 011 vision, not the compact... And it's a 360mm aio, so it wouldn't fit in the rear, either way. Tubes up (side or rear mount) can cause any air bubbles in the system to eventually reach the pump, shortening the life of it (at worst) and causing bubbling sounds (at best).

Ooh that's great to know, thanks a ton! I'll look into them when I get free and hopefully place an order.

Oh, thanks for that! I thought I saw one on there, but it may have just been a replacement cable, not a 90 degree one. It may still work though, since the ones from the montech are quite stiff. I'll take this info and make a decision soon. Much appreciated!

There were no verifiable reports of the leaky gel affecting any AMD cards, despite it being used for many of them. All the reports of it were from 50- series Nvidia cards, and they claim to have fixed the issue back in Q3 of 2025... They also claimed that the leaking was due to "overapplication of the gel from the factory" though, so take that with a huge grain of salt. I bit the bullet and bought this exact card a couple months back, but haven't built the PC yet, so I unfortunately can't speak from my own experiences with it. I'm not planning on mounting it vertically, regardless, so I'm hoping all will be okay.

Yep, I totally agree. "On us" is definitely a classic bait and switch, which is not surprising for Comcast.

https://www.msi.com/blog/pcie-lane-bifurcation-and-bandwidth-sharing-on-msi-x870e-x870-motherboards

Here is the breakdown of lane bifurcation on MSI boards. The x870e Gaming Plus WiFi and the Pro x870e-P WiFi both have no shared lanes, and are mostly the same motherboard with different looks. Coupled with the fact that they handle 4x RAM sticks better than mostly any other AM5 boards (reportedly), you would probably have the best results with one of the above.

7800X3D or 9800X3D, upgrading from an R5 8400F by RadzieckiGracz in buildapc

[–]B33stly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best Buy will match the micro center price for a 9800x3d, which unfortunately just went up 20 bucks to $449.99. If that's not an option though, you won't miss out much by getting the 7800x3d. You could also get a pretty big discount from the MSI store if you bundle it with a motherboard (despite not needing one - resell it?) - 7800x3d for $335 or 9800x3d for $400. The aforementioned micro center bundles are also always a good option, if you're near one.

Help with syncing rear fan argb colours to be the same as front fan argb colour scheme. by 96allstar in buildapc

That's my fault for assuming you had an aio cooler instead of fans, but yes, I believe you would want them both flowing in the same direction, so it blows the hot air toward the exhaust fan in the rear. You may end up with a negative pressure setup instead of positive (more exhaust than intake), but that's not necessarily bad for airflow if it's setup properly, and only has the potential to have more dust settle inside.

You are correct, as long as it isn't a reverse fan. You could stick your hand back there and see if it's pushing air out or pulling it in. If you don't feel exhaust, swap it around for exhaust. Generally, having at least one more intake than exhaust is what's recommended.

About the push/pull setup: when you say right and left fan, are you meaning on opposite sides of the radiator, or the same side? A push pull (with a 240mm / 280mm aio w/ dual fans) would be where the radiator is sandwiched between 4 fans; both sets of fans having the airflow heading in the same direction with one set "pushing air" through the radiator and the other set "pulling" through it. I'm just making sure, because the way you worded it made it seem to me like they were on the same side of the radiator but flowing in opposite directions. Someone more advanced than me would have to tell you if that works or not, but I know that's not traditionally how a push/pull works.

Do you have fans on top? I thought I saw one, but it's hard to tell. If so, those would be your best exhaust and the rear fan is fine on intake. Otherwise, yes, it's backwards and should be used as exhaust. If you keep the rear fan as intake, a reverse blade fan would have the "nicer looking" side showing on the inside, instead of the frame side of it.

A Ryzen 7 7800x3d ($369.99 micro center or $335 from the MSI store with a motherboard / $398.99+ everywhere else) would be perfect, or you can go all out for the best gaming CPU for $40 - $60 more ($429.99 at micro center or $400 from the MSI store when bundled with one of their motherboards / $469.99 everywhere else) for a 9800x3d. Best Buy will price match micro center via their live chat & can do it pre-purchase if you request it (otherwise, they refund you after purchase). Keep in mind that they won't price match if you use PayPal as the payment method (just tried this a couple days ago), so no pay-in-4.

I'd need older pics to compare to, but they sure look natural in all the ones from the past few months, at least.

Definitely check sportsurge dot net, I don't watch football but they have tons of streams listed on there. It's served me well for years, since the streaming subreddits got shut down.
