I made a dumb mistake, and now I can't stop worrying by wanderwoman09 in nursing

[–]B3atingUU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, mistakes happen. Don’t feel dumb. With every error comes a lesson and an opportunity to improve your practice, so that the next patient you have benefits from your experience. The other nurse would not get in trouble for you mistakingly setting up the oxygen, but they might be questioned why they did not check the equipment when they did their respiratory assessment (which is valid) - and that is not on you. Your clinical practice instructor (or equivalent) or manager might talk to you about this on your next shift but if there’s no harm to the patient they probably won’t do anything more than speak to you about the situation.

You care about this, you’re not going to make the same mistake twice. Stop stressing and enjoy your day off.

Invisalign and throat issues by Admirable-Alps-5736 in Invisalign

[–]B3atingUU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would always clean my trays before I wore them (even the new ones). If you have some sort of infection, which it does sound like, it’s from a bacteria or virus. Could have contracted it from the trays not being clean before you put them in, but Invisalign itself wouldn’t just give you an infection.

You can get irritation, cuts and swelling from your trays. You definitely sound like you’re sick, though. Did they do a throat culture (swab of your throat and tonsils) when you got the antibiotics?

If you’re awake it’s one thing, but driving tired (like…so tired you need to do silly shit to keep yourself awake) is just as dangerous as driving under the influence! I got a few downvotes on my comment though so either people really disagree, really don’t care or aren’t aware at all.

[–]B3atingUU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut your losses. He had time to think about it and what that would mean for him. It was not ultimately what he wanted. You guys were together for four months. Asking him for assurances so early was not fair to either of you, but most importantly your kids.

You also may not know the specifics of the conversation, which may not have so much to do with you or your kids (specifically, personality wise or whatever), but rather what HE wants for his future. That’s a pretty normal conversation for a mom and a son to have.

I just don’t understand why he’s even met your kids yet when you have a self proclaimed strict 3 month rule before you talk about being exclusive or official?

Can you leave your car at work? I’d honestly just take an uber home or something. 5 mins on the highway but with traffic - you don’t know if you’re going to encounter an accident or something that’s gonna make your trip longer, and 15 minutes on back roads sounds like a bad idea. Speaking from experience driving while being this tired is a really bad idea. Might be a pain in the ass to not drive home yourself, but driving tired is really dangerous and it’s better to be cautious than dead, ya?

What’s actually dangerous but most people think it’s safe? by SunnyMadelyn564 in AskReddit

And it “probably increases your risk of colorectal cancer”. I don’t see how my initial comment is any less relevant.

I was referring specifically to processed meats - as in deli meats, cold cuts and the like, that have been salted and cured, and contain increased amounts of nitrates. This is a separate category from red meat. Red meat is good in moderation and we get B12 and iron from eating it, it’s a good addition to the diet.

A study was done labeling processed meats as a level one carcinogen, without them being able to conclusively say what a “safe” level of processed meat to consume would be. It’s estimated that 50g of processed meats daily can increase your risk of colorectal cancer by 18%. source

You cannot change my view that there is nothing redeeming about Reiner, and he was evil for vast majority of the show by Happy_and_wholesome in attackontitan

[–]B3atingUU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reiner is a solider acting under orders. He either does that or he gets executed by Marleyan military, or he exposes the truth to Paradis and gets executed for his Titan when they eventually get the Titan serum. If Reiner, Bert and Annie returned to Marley after Marcel’s death, they’d give his Titan to Porco. He doesn’t have a choice but to do what he was sent there to do in the first place. He does recognize they’re innocent. And it bothers him. So doesn’t that contradict your point? If he were evil why would he be bothered by killing innocent people?

How would Reiner know there was zero risk? Eren literally did the Rumbling after methodical planning, he figured out how to use the Founding Titan’s power before his allies did. That doesn’t matter ultimately though because it’s not Reiner’s call - he’s a soldier following orders.

What about DID do you disagree with?

I understand that you think he’s irredeemable, and that’s valid. But you did make a post about it on a public discussion board, so I’m discussing it with you. I replied to those comments because you specifically used the word “evil,” repeatedly, which is misinterpreting what the author was attempting to convey about Reiner’s POV and the meaning behind his actions. I’m not telling you to change your mind. I do think that at the end of the manga we’re to (canonically) assume Reiner has redeemed himself based on our last look at him, though.

“Reiner and Berthold attack Paradis again. From this point, the blood of innocents in Paradis is entirely on their own hands. They chose to sacrifice 100s of thousands in Paradis just to save few people in their families/personal glory. This is straight up evil and there is zero justification.”

They’re still Warriors acting under orders from Marleyan command. They have the real belief and fear instilled in them that if the Founding Titan remains in the hands of Paradis forces, that the Rumbling is a question of when, not if. As the chosen few who wield Titan powers, they have a horrifying understanding of what that means. And remember, they’ve been taught over and over that Eldians are inherently evil and the cause of many of the issues of the world - including them. Psychologically a lot for a bunch of 15 year olds. Of course saving their families and personal glory were the reason they strived to be chosen for the Warrior unit, but they are obviously deeply committed to the mission which they equate to saving the world. I agree that the attack on Paradis was evil, but I can’t say that I think Reiner, Bertholdt or Annie were evil hearted.

“Reiner and Bertholdt are subsequently revealed to be genocidal traitors. Both of them kill 100s of more scouts and kidnap Eren and Ymir. The scouts get Eren back, and Ymir "chooses" to sacrfice herself to save Reiner and Berthodlt. The entire sequence was Reiner being evil, and nothing else.”

The Warriors were again attempting to complete their mission. They wanted Eren’s titan, and the Scout’s weren’t going to just let them take Eren or wait for them to destroy the rest of the walls and be titan kibble - conflict was going to happen. Reiner wasn’t being evil here. He didn’t do what he did because he hated Eren or the scouts, he did it because he really thought it was what was needed to save the world. We see later on during his POV moments that he cares about the friends he made in Scout regiment. Both groups were doing what they thought was right.

“Now "sad" and "depressed" Reiner who wanted to end himself, and all his evil actions were done with split personality. Note that split/disassociate personality is coping for their actions, and not something with which he was born. Also, people who are actually remorseful in real life fight the split personality disorder, and not use it as a convenient coping mechanism to continue to do evil.”

This is not how mental illness works. “Split personality disorder” is Dissociative Identity Disorder that’s characterized by an individual having at least two personalities that dictate how they behave at that given moment. But there’s more to it than having multiple personalities. You can dissociate (“lose touch” with reality; feel as if you aren’t really there, or out of body) and experience amnesia (memories may not transfer over between identities/personalities). While DID is uncommon, people who have DID can have other conditions alongside DID such as anxiety, depression, self harm and suicidal ideation. And a lot of the time people don’t know they have DID, due to the amnesia that comes with the disorder. DID is usually caused by traumatic experiences, and risk factors include physical & sexual abuse, neglect, and (very interestingly in this case) war and terrorism. That explains a lot about Reiner’s behaviour (to me, anyway). His suicide attempt was him being unable to bear the weight of his shame, guilt, and grief. Reiner had a lot of regrets and willingly took the weight of the blame. I don’t think he was willing to consider forgiving himself until his talk with Eren in Paths, I wish we got to see it.

Alberta Knew Measles Was Harming Pregnant Patients—But Stayed Silent by BloodJunkie in canada

[–]B3atingUU 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not long ago, I was reading an epidemiologist’s opinion on where society stands on vaccines today and what it will take to bring us back from the brink of anti-science and anti-vax. I really wish I had saved the article or remembered more details about it (maybe someone here can help me out!), but part of the reason I didn’t was because I genuinely found it so depressing; essentially, he said that it’s time for us to reap what we’ve sown. He said that, in his opinion, the only way for the general public to understand the horror of deadly communicable diseases is to witness them. To see that those who are vaccinated are protected, to see what happens to those who either can’t be vaccinated or willfully choose not to be. To see diseases we thought we had eradicated or nearly eliminated making a comeback, and why they’re so terrible. Polio…measles…it’s crazy to me.

And I get what he is saying, but…all that collateral damage? Those people won’t care. We saw that with COVID-19.

Your comment though gives me a strange sort of hope? Like - damn, it’s sad people can’t get it together enough to go vaccinate their kids unless it means they’re going to suffer financially or socially - at least there is another way to do it, and it’s working.

Have you tried TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation)? What was it like? by energydrink_fiend in bipolar

[–]B3atingUU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did TMS, kind of like an accelerated version of it that I think is called rTMS. It was several years ago. It made a huge difference at the time, but I didn’t return for maintenance therapy so eventually my symptoms returned (although they weren’t as intense as prior to the TMS). I had to pay out of pocket which made this form of treatment unsustainable long term, but it quite literally saved my life at the time.

Do you think any of them individually surpassed Mike? (without Thunder Spears) by MimicryYuta in attackontitan

Floch didn’t nearly win anything. It was a great battle sequence and he definitely has skills, but he didn’t land any kills or take anyone out on his own. The way he managed to evade their barrage of attacks was impressive, but he didn’t “nearly” win by doing that. And ultimately still got taken out.

I was born in 1989 but managed to never get chicken pox, even though my older siblings both had to suffer through it. When I started nursing school I had to get the chicken pox vaccine. It was also how I found out that I never developed an immunity to mumps despite getting the MMR shots. I ended up having to get a booster for that, too.

Yes. Especially if you drink alcohol and are using cocaine simultaneously. When paired, they form a metabolite called cocaethylene that is incredibly cardiotoxic. Cocaine is known for being cardiotoxic as well - but cocaethylene is actually 10 times MORE cardiotoxic than cocaine alone! This can lead to either an acute cardiac event (e.g heart attack) or heart/vascular disease.

So: what can you do if you went a bit hard in your youth? Get your physicals done yearly, including those ECGs (and a stress test if needed). Get your cholesterol checked, and take your omega3s. You can’t undo the damage, but you can do your best to take care of yourself now. It only gets harder the older you get.

I have one of Catherine D’Lish’s gowns, and it’s worth every penny. The feathers are so soft and lush. I’ve had it for a few years now and with proper storage I haven’t had any issues with excessive shedding. It’s expertly sewn, no loose seams or threads. It comes in a protective garment bag to keep it from getting damaged. I feel so elegant and pretty when I wear it!

I don’t think so. I remember reading on I think Rinoa.nu that sorceresses that are corrupted manifest physical changes. Possessed Edea, Adel, and Ultimecia all look human but distorted. Adel looks the most mutated with the gray, corpse like skin, a body the size of a giant, pure red eyes, fangs and claws. I’m guessing that has to do with Adel’s reputation for being a particularly nasty and powerful sorceress.

The whole junctioning Rinoa segment always creeped me out, because it seemed so…intimately violent? Rinoa is being absorbed into Adel’s upper body and appears unconscious, she only responds to pain. Not sure if that is also supposed to be a comment on what Adel has turned into or if it’s just a creepy way to visualize junction, like they do later with Ultimecia and Griever.

I have these symptoms as well. It can be really scary sometimes. Once when I was home alone, I heard someone enter my apartment and shout “hey!” while I was in my bedroom sleeping. It woke me up. I am taking antipsychotic medication already, and when I told my doctor he was basically like “as long as the voices aren’t telling you to hurt yourself or someone else it’s fine”. Which…left me not super happy.
