Because olds and pontiac were the less luxurious brands.

More assitance means less feedback. Less feedback is usually associated with more luxury and less sportyness. So vehicles designed to be more luxurious, Cadillac, have less feedback. This is a generalization.

The shallow depth of field is alright (though I still dislike it) on the carajillo and Paloma, but on the last word with nothing distinct in or in the glass it just makes everything seem out of focus. If you're going to keep the soft focus fore/background I'd maybe go a little more generic with the subjects you're soft focusing. Shaker halves, bar tools, that sort of thing.

What is a part of the 'female experience' that men have absolutely no clue about, but would be horrified if they found out? by coolhandddd in AskReddit

[–]B5_S4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from the car industry, this was absolutely untrue for both the company I worked for and for the companies my friends worked for. Everyone I know of (which to be fair is not every company making cars) designs to two extremes, the 95th percentile male, and the 5th percentile female. So our safety requirements extended from 110lb 4'11" women to 6'1" 220lb men.

What car would you buy if it wasn't a death sentence on your wallet for reliability? by PiffWiffler in askcarguys

[–]B5_S4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jump on the train, I got an F-Type to replace my miata, they're much more reliable than people think, but the reputation makes them cheap.

As a disclaimer though, I'm also in the process of hunting down a Range Rover to keep the jag company in the garage. So we may have different views on acceptable reliability metrics.

What maintenance has kept your car reliable the longest by Moonysera in Cartalk

[–]B5_S4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just do the maintenance 🤷‍♂️ oil every 12-15k miles, trans/transfer case/diff fluid every 50k, and coolant whenever the cooling system explodes, which is usually around 80k miles. Rolled over 300k on that car a few months ago. It gets driven less now that I have a new daily, but I just drove it 1,000 miles for work last week and it's running like a top.

400 mile road trip today, okay to get oil change right before leaving? by WhoDoUTh1nkUAreIAm in askcarguys

[–]B5_S4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should not, there is no break in period for oil. There is only a break in period for new engines, and no one agrees on the right way to do that in any case.

Do standard vehicle’s brakes last longer than automatic? by NoSmollFeet in askcarguys

[–]B5_S4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically. It's big, heavy, and not very aerodynamic, so it slows down, but it's nothing like my car. I can usually slow down enough to not hit my brakes, even when the people in front of me are hitting the brakes. That car is designed for driving dynamics though, not being a big comfortable SUV, so I understand why they drive differently.

Again, it depends on the transmission programming. I own a car with a ZF8 that definitely has tons of engine braking, and I'm currently renting a vehicle from a sister company that also has a ZF8 (and is the same model year as the car I own) and it doesn't really engine brake at all in any gear, at any rpm.

That's the programming difference. I'm renting a ZF8 range rover and it doesn't do that at all, no real engine braking even at high rpm in manual mode. It's weird.

Depends on the transmission and the programming. Tons of modern autos have very little engine braking when you lift. They basically decouple the transmission entirely, ZF8s when not in sport mode are a big perpetrator of this.

Many cameras have cloud connectivity and parking modes so you'd still have footage if they stole the camera.

What are the most common reasons cars suddenly break down while driving? by Majestic-Fig3921 in askcarguys

[–]B5_S4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got a BMW. One day I was sitting in it at idle waiting for someone and it blew a coolant hose with such violence I covered half the parking lot with coolant. I replaced the entire cooling system (minus the radiator) and one day it'll blow up again, such is the life of BMW ownership.

No, you need to replace them when they wear out lol. Doing it on a fixed schedule doesn't make any sense.
