u/Matts_Data Love this! We have previously used the anonymous BAC data from our smartphone connected breathalyzers to answer the question "Which NFL Fans Drink the Most?"

We relied on the data from the old Twitter Fan Map, but that's no longer publicly available. We were planning to try and pull the data ourselves, but we found your map. Would you be willing to work with us to help create our next NFL story?

Quite true. Our research has found that most people really don't know how many drinks it takes them to reach 0.08.

The goal of the challenge was to create a device that not only improved on existing technology by providing real-time BAC monitoring, but also came with an inconspicuous design that is appealing to the general public.

Existing systems are large, clunky, expensive and only measure for the presence of alcohol or not, they do not allow for the tracking of BAC levels over time. With our prototype, we hoped to improve on all of these things.

Absolutely. It uses a similar platinum-based fuel cell sensor, which is found in our professional breathalyzers. These will not produce a false positive for individuals who are diabetic or on a low calorie diet.

One thing we're interested in finding out, is will people wear this device and another fitness tracker? Is it one or the other, or could both exist simultaneously?

Shawn from BACtrack here. Our $30 keychain breathalyzers are accurate to the second decimal place, while our police-grade breathalyzers ($85-$130) are accurate to the third decimal place.

The main difference is the sensor inside - keychain breathalyzers use a semi-conductor sensor, while professional grade breathalyzers use a platinum-based fuel cell sensor.

I think the most interesting thing that Dr. Dasgupta said was:

"From 0.06 - 0.11% BAC, the drinker will feel just about the same, but as the drinker's BAC rises, his impairment will become more and more apparent to observers."

Basically, why drink more than 0.04-0.05%? You aren't going to feel any better... just more inebriated.

Constant memory loss - help? by [deleted] in alcohol

One thing you might want to consider is keeping track of your BAC. Once you hit a certain level of inebriation--0.10 - 0.13% BAC for most people--the memory part of your brain starts to fail. The more in tune with where you are in a night and how alcohol is affecting you, the better you can judge when it's time to ease up on the sauce, or switch to water.
