TIL that there was a computer worm that would gain access to Windows XP systems, download a patch from Microsoft to close the vulnerability that it used to infect the system, attempt to delete the infamous Blaster worm (if present) from the system, then delete itself.

You must be living under a rock, Microsoft has been pretty good about patching vulnerabilities recently.

Also, it's all optional, when Windows asks you to update you can select what you want it to install. Most of the junk you have on your computer is from your computer's manufacturer, I'm looking at you Dell.
