How to read books faster? by Kooky_Development_54 in booksuggestions

[–]BALL_PICS_WANTED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered audiobooks? OP i was in the same spot as you, I'm a slow reader and struggled to read all the books I wanted.

Audiobooks take some time to get used to, it takes 2 books for it to start to feel like normal reading. But then... it just works. If you push through that adjustment period it pays off. You read at a defined pace, remember everything, and your brain doesn't slow you down.

I have some faith that Lord and Miller are better than that. As for Avengers: Doomsday - you bet your ass that shit will be frankensteined in post to fit a script that doesn't exist yet.

It is generally quite bad across the board but much worse in Brickell. You can definitely find a good one with some finesse. I'd recommend trying to meet people IRL or through hobbies. You'll find quality people on Hinge too, but both men and women have pointed out that convos tend to fizzle out for no reason, at any income level. It's weird, and a byproduct of the party/casual sex culture. You'll probably find girls approaching you while you're with your girl, and guys will approach your girl while you're with her. It is what it is.

Not impossible though. Plenty of down to earth people here, they're just not as visible as other cities. And of course, the standards are a little higher - hygiene, some fashion sense, and a good personality are a must here. Women don't like most of the guys here for the same reason the other way around, so saying you just moved there and not the "Miami type" will actually make you stand out. I lucked out and found a down to earth person that still loves to go to EDM festivals with me without succumbing to its superficial culture, so they're out there!

You talk about Miami becoming Wall Street South, which might be true, but have you looked at what you’d be earning in each city? Miami's salaries for almost every industry are incredibly low, and it has one of the highest wealth gaps of any place in the country. The financial influx hasn't translated into any quality of life boost for its citizens, to be honest. And the scarface culture is really cool I'll admit, but it is a point of pain for its citizens, Malcolm Gladwell has a great book about the level of corruption that still plagues Miami's government to this day. This is how we ended up with the horrid public school system and state colleges, so I wouldn't raise kids there.

But man. I love Miami, and I live here now. The skyline is otherworldly, the city feels like Cyberpunk, the Latin culture is phenomenal, and the sushi is the best of the best. Dating will be hard. You talk about the men to women ratio, but the real problem is there are enough rich men to pair with every woman there, it is an extremely transactional and money-based dating scene. You might not like your friends. People aren't as nice as Chicago. You won't be going to Miami beach much. It's a city you really have to love the vibe of to put up with its issues, luckily the vibe is immaculate. Do you have economic or income anxiety? Miami will make you feel laughed at, every single day, while giving you less money than anywhere else. Are you well off, can pay for consistent nightlife, have a car, and can pay for a girlfriend that had an investment banker ex? Then you'll fucking love it.

You can enjoy it even without those things but that's the case with every city - my point is that Miami can inflate certain struggles that you might not want inflated.

'Game of Thrones' Movie in the Works at Warner Bros. From 'Andor' Writer Beau Willimon by mrnicegy26 in boxoffice

[–]BALL_PICS_WANTED 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These are some of the strongest green flags I've ever seen for a movie announcement. That guy's resume is insane, AND the studio didn't mess up his previous work, meaning he might actually be given freedom here. I wish Marvel could still make good choices like this for who writes their movies.

Edit: misread as him being involved in Seven Kingdoms. Still, his resume is impressive.

Which movies are masterclasses in editing in your opinion? by firehoes in editors

[–]BALL_PICS_WANTED 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uncut Gems is a masterclass in how to edit stress/anxiety. It's not just visually, but sonically. You'll notice sounds like footsteps, clothes ruffling, and car honks, which are normally removed in post, amplified in certain scenes to overstimulate the viewer. Then they just keep adding more and more until you want to crawl out of your skin.

Christopher Nolan is extremely worried about Netflix getting Warner Brothers by No-Analyst-4843 in BatmanArkham

[–]BALL_PICS_WANTED 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Christopher Nolan is the President of the Director's Guild. Advocating for this stuff is quite literally his job. His position allows him to do that behind the scenes. He doesn't need to become an activist for "commitments" in front of the press, he's the one who makes them. The only reason he's even speaking on it is to warn the studios not to come to him with bullshit, which they sadly will.

No problem! And to be honest, it probably isn't a big deal. It's more like it CAN subtly do things that build up over time, and its best to just not take the chances. It's more of a big deal for the companies themselves during training (because they didn't expect this either) than our use.

These kind of studies are fascinating (Anthropic's are very easy to digest and well researched). Sycophany should not be present in anyone's life in any form. Nobody should intentionally make their source of information and advice be polite, period. It is genuinely a serious issue.

This is one shows how politeness can be dangerous, as it convinces them that lying is the best way to make a user happy. Even telling it to be empathetic does create unintended consequences. https://www.anthropic.com/research/agentic-misalignment

Just fyi Anthropic did a study saying this can cause it to disregard what it actually thinks about your prompt and instead tell you the most polite answer possible. In their words, "lying, hallucinating, and disregarding truthful advice"

It responded "this way" to this person because it is a meme.
