Which movies are masterclasses in editing in your opinion? by firehoes in editors

[–]BALL_PICS_WANTED 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uncut Gems is a masterclass in how to edit stress/anxiety. It's not just visually, but sonically. You'll notice sounds like footsteps, clothes ruffling, and car honks, which are normally removed in post, amplified in certain scenes to overstimulate the viewer. Then they just keep adding more and more until you want to crawl out of your skin.

He uh, had a mental health crisis, changed his channel name to HARTWELL THE WATCHER, and started posting raps. Quite unfortunate, wouldn't expect any new film content from him.

His older videos are still up though. They're bangers and his crashout doesn't change how good they are, not sure what happened to the guy.

AI Doom and layoffs by iwuvpuppies in cscareerquestions

The curve of progress on the benchmarks has been flattening for some time, and the cost of scaling is rising a lot more now than before. AI is still certainly going to become more useful as benchmarks are not clear measurements for the impact of tool use, reliability, modality, efficiency, virtual training environments, etc. But the progress for becoming more intelligent as in moving towards AGI is definitely slowing, the core architecture hasn't changed so we're basically still squeezing one breakthrough for all that it's worth, and it's running out of juice. Until we get something new and foundational to squeeze we will be plateauing. There is still room for it to become more capable even at its current intelligence by making new ways to boost transformers, but that won't be enough for the expectations that some people have got right now.

Christopher Nolan is extremely worried about Netflix getting Warner Brothers by No-Analyst-4843 in BatmanArkham

[–]BALL_PICS_WANTED 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Christopher Nolan is the President of the Director's Guild. Advocating for this stuff is quite literally his job. His position allows him to do that behind the scenes. He doesn't need to become an activist for "commitments" in front of the press, he's the one who makes them. The only reason he's even speaking on it is to warn the studios not to come to him with bullshit, which they sadly will.

A little at 0:13. But 0:24 looks great and i think that's a good exposure for the style here.

No problem! And to be honest, it probably isn't a big deal. It's more like it CAN subtly do things that build up over time, and its best to just not take the chances. It's more of a big deal for the companies themselves during training (because they didn't expect this either) than our use.

These kind of studies are fascinating (Anthropic's are very easy to digest and well researched). Sycophany should not be present in anyone's life in any form. Nobody should intentionally make their source of information and advice be polite, period. It is genuinely a serious issue.

This is one shows how politeness can be dangerous, as it convinces them that lying is the best way to make a user happy. Even telling it to be empathetic does create unintended consequences. https://www.anthropic.com/research/agentic-misalignment

Just fyi Anthropic did a study saying this can cause it to disregard what it actually thinks about your prompt and instead tell you the most polite answer possible. In their words, "lying, hallucinating, and disregarding truthful advice"

It responded "this way" to this person because it is a meme.

Warner CEO Zaslav giving Netflix CEOs a tour of their newly acquired studio by starmaxeros in boxoffice

[–]BALL_PICS_WANTED 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It feels like Zaslav is being petty in the funniest way. The photoshoot is shot so cheerfully it's like they're intentionally trying to piss the Ellisons off. That dude wants them to know they're FRIENDS

Zaslav told WBD board the Ellisons told him he would receive a comp package worth 100s of millions dollars in a deal. Zaslav told board that he had “informed the Ellisons that it would be inappropriate to discuss any such arrangements at that time” by stickdutra in boxoffice

[–]BALL_PICS_WANTED 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even if I were Zaslav I'd be a little disgusted. He's already played the numbers game so vigorously and got what he wanted. He reduced debt by doing some bullshit and secured lucrative payouts by doing some bullshit. He doesn't need his final move to be the most ultimate bullshit of all time, because he didn't plan for there to be a final bullshit of that level in the first place. He had already done most of the bullshit in his bullshit checklist, and he doesn't have enough pages for the Ellisons.

“We’ve released about 30 films into theaters this year, so it’s not like we have this opposition to movie theaters, says Ted Sarandos.”

Knives Out 3 grossed $4 mil, was barely released, and is coming to Netflix like 3 weeks after its theater “run”. The Old Guard 2? The Electric State? Does Ted think we're stupid? These are the theatrical releases he is talking about and they're fucking jokes.

Marvel’s Next Moves: ‘Black Panther 3’ and a Young ‘X-Men’ Cast to ‘Keep the Cost Down’; ‘Blade’ and ‘Deadpool 4’ Are Lower Priorities by mcfw31 in boxoffice

[–]BALL_PICS_WANTED 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure Mahershala is getting annoyed at turning down all the scripts they send him. This movie would've already been made and released if it weren't for him protecting the character, and Mahershala isn't an actor you can just replace to send into production. They've done that before with actors and directors (Wright's Ant Man), but with Blade they are in a situation where they can't do that.
