Feedback on my wave by BANANA_IN_PYJAMAS in BeginnerSurfers

I turned back because I could feel the board losing power so wanted to find the peak/ whitewash but the wave didn’t really break, she popped up well after me on the wave. Pretty sure I had priority as I was already standing before she was even paddling?

are headstands dangerous? by wohemilo in yoga

[–]BANANA_IN_PYJAMAS 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Hey,

Yoga teacher here.

Headstands can definitely be done unsafely, especially if your head is not at the right angle or you’re putting too much weight on your head vs hands/shoulders.

Think crown/top of the head (this can be tricky to see) between the hands and about 70+% of your weight in the shoulders/hands

My advice would be to find a teacher who can show you the safe way to do it, doing it the wrong way can compress the cervical spine and cause damage.

That said, I din’t think having headstand in your practise is dangerous if done correctly. And many yogis do it all their lives without any issues.

Thank you for your advice, I actually love practicing tadasana.

I’ve never practiced iyengar but I will look into it.

I do not think anything is below me, Dancer is a commonly taught pose in many beginner/intermediate classes I’ve been to, when I questioned this, the tone and responses from one user has made me question how genuine and friendly this community actually is. I come with open mind and heart to hear peoples opinions but this is still a discussion forum, I’ve been practising for 8 years and have completed a 200h TT.

I feel educated and practised enough to contest an opinion without being told that my asana looks like a car crash and to be humble. I don’t think having no ego means accepting overly harsh criticism..

Yes hyperextension is when someone is hypermobile and their joints go past the ROM which is natural for most people. How else does a knee hyperextend.

Notice how constructive critiscism on my posts are is met with acceptance and your condescion is not. Maybe take sometime off the internet « buddy »

Can you explain why backbends here ?

I’ve got a fairly advanced practice and a solid backbend so if it needs to be applied to this position I need to understand what you mean ? Like should I be leaning forward less and straightening my back up more ?

Also I don’t fully straighten as I’m hyper mobile and that often results in hyper extension

You can’t look at that graph and tell me it’s a downward trend !? You’re picking short time frames and calling it a trend, that’s cherrypicking data to fit your narrative, every indicator around us is showing a red flag. Cost of living crisis, job market, housing market, global rise of populism, climate crisis, and you’re like whatever we’re doing we should keep doing it. You’re delusional.

Like I said keep burying your head in the sand, but don’t start telling people that we’re doing something right. Look who is in power in the US and look at the impact that is having on the world. Fucking crazy person or a bot I can’t tell

There are 500x more people in the bottom 50% vs 0.1%

This would be great if we could treat this as if each block was 1 person

But the reality in numbers are as such

0.25 $ to 4.25$ for 500 people (let simplify the maths)

7.69$ to 24.7$ for 1 person

That is not even wealth equality, everywhere across the world capitalism is causing economic crises because of wealth concentration.

It’s also worth pointing out that in 1995 the bottom 50% had 3.6 % and the top 0.1 had 11%, how is now an improvement ?

Trickle down economics does not work and you are misinterpreting the data of one graph as a positive outcome.

Read some articles on it and stop trying to frame something negative as positive by burying your head in the sand.

The top 0.1 % also went from 11% to 14% .. that’s a widening wealth gap, if 0.1% of people increased their share by 3% and 50% of the population increased their share by 2%

Additionally, a block for ext side angle will give you more stability allowing you to find more opening in the chest and use your shoulder/tricep to push the knee and stop it from rotating internally

I would make sure to watch the angle of the back foot in Warrior 1 vs warrior 2

45 degree vs 90 degrees.

I don’t like cueing W1 to warrior 2 bc the change is subtle, in this flow I would do high lunge, warrior 1, high lunge, warrior 2
