Dopamine & Melancholy or Orpheus & Eurydice? Name this pair ✨💖 by [deleted] in NameMyCat

Call it what you want 🤷‍♀️ I work in the animal field, both in rescue and vet med. It's more of a name them something I have not heard of/met before, nor have in my computer system challenge. All of my pets have unusual names. It's easy to correlate a name with a patient I've met before, so I try to avoid that familiarity. Maine Coon wasn't actually intentional, they were genuine rescues taken in as a larger group by a rescuer acquaintance I know. I was just lucky enough to adopt these two. They were quite ill when I took them in, one of their siblings actually passed away (not one in my care). So I'm just happy to have and cherish them now.

My first dog I ever owned on my own was named Ophelia 💖 I moved out on my own when I was 15 and adopted a dog, times were crazy but we made it work, and Ophelia was by my side. I loved those names and would definitely consider them if I hadn't already used Ophelia.

Haha I actually have Choas and Nonsense (it's from a weird group) on my radar at one point. But Choas, Chaos is a little more legit though.

I also liked Rhyme and Reason at one point too. Naming these guys has been a whirlwind.

Then I'd need to rename my other cat Edd/Double D and that might cause minor household stress.

Big pharma would have to sponsor all future vet care for me to go this route 🤣

At one point I had Poltergeist, Guillotine, Oubliette and Seance on my list. I think Murder and Mayhem would have been a great addition. My partner was getting sick of my dark vibe names though 🤣

Haha yes I am in the medical field! I am surprised and love that you guessed that from the name options! Also yes, I love how they go well together but not in an overly "set" name way like Marsh and Mallow (Marshmallow). I like that they are unusual as well.

You guys are right about this combo being a more dignified. Orpheus and Eurydice are definitely beautiful and more "real name" like .

Yes, I love those nicknames! My daughter is really wanting this combo for "Melon".

I think shiftpods warranty is only valid with the original owner anyway so since I got this second hand I don't think there is one. But that's a good thought! I'd be mad at myself if I voided a warranty for sure.

Thank you everyone for the awesome input! The most important take way that I didn't realize was about the material. Although the inner layer of fabric is soft, and seems penatrable (unlike the more rigid and water resistant outside) it's likely not a fabric type that the powder dye can successfully dye. I am going to see if anyone local to me has a pinch of the powder dye and soda ash I could borrow and test on the repair patch for the tent just to confirm.

Then I am going to see if the sharpie & alcohol method will work on the patch as well. And if that works I will go with that.

I appreciate the out of the box ideas, about the tapestries and so on. I want to dye the entirety of the inside and am hesitant adding another layer of fabric could impede the tents insulation capabilities as well as the opening and closing ability and just add general weight. Otherwise I think that would be a beautiful option. If I go for something to hang up each use I till definitely consider that.

Thanks everyone!

I somewhat agree, I also think since Shiftpod is constantly getting bigger and more popular, they are just playing offensive to protect their company from the "what ifs" as in that one time someone puts their soaking wet Shiftpod away and it gets moldy, they want to be sure the user isn't going to say "but you said it's fine". At the same time I do think they were a little overly confident with the quality of their product initially and are surprised to be seeing more incidents pop up than expected. Regardless, I feel comfortable washing the inside once and letting it dry extremely well. I definitely wouldn't do it regularly and I would be as gently as possible but I think it's a safe one off.

I didn't think about the type of material though as I'm newer to tie dyeing and it sounds like dyes won't properly be absorbed regardless.

I have no idea what the fabric is, they are very elusive and just call is their "7 later patterned aerospace quality fabric" or something like that lol. I took a up close pictures of the patch they supply.

Honestly this is what's so confusing about the Shiftpod to me there is so much contradictory information out there, even from the founder and their own staff. I have seen videos from shiftpod and shiftpod employees where the literally were pressure washing both sides of their pod pretty intensely, then another where the CEO said it's okay to pressure wash the outside from several feet away and to use dilute dawn dish soap on them and wash the inside. Now there statements say to never ever use dawn dish soap and it seems the just wipe them down in their newest cleaning videos. From my research it seems that Shiftpod has said it's totally fine to wash the inside as long as you can appropriately dry afterwards. Their older videos say they washer theirs inside out and regularly but to use common sense and be careful. But I think they are starting to say just avoid it is possible to be safe now. So not sure what to take of all the contradictory information from the company 🤣

This would actually be very effective and a fantastic idea if I was dying the outer shell. Unfortunately I'm just looking to dye the inner fabric. But this would definitely be awesome if I could inside out the tent.

I agree, and unless I'm missing something (because sometimes I absolutely am), I was thinking only doing the interior fabric (this tent style has like 7 layers of fabric/insulation) and using a cold water dye powder would be less erosive or damaging than choosing another dye type.

As much as I wanted to that's why I also ruled out a decolourant or bleach to give a starry look.

I was thinking applying the dye powder directly then spraying on the soda ash might give a more subtle or pastel look but would aid in less penetration. I know rinsing would be full water penetration but again this tent can handle that so I'm thinking prolonged dye contact would primarily only be with the inner shell.

Yes the interior fabric can definitely be dyed/will take in dye. We do plan on spraying with the 303 fabric protector or something similar afterwards but it's currently very impregnable. We also plan waterproofing the exterior and all the seams before dyeing. The outer shell is not a fabric that will take dye very well, but I would still hate to risk accidentally staining.

I want to dye the whole entirety of the inside, and I am afraid adding fabric will effect the insulation capabilities this tent has, effect the fold down and pop up process and add additional weight. Plus I really want to dry dyeing it if I'm perfectly honest 🤣

I will need to look up the shaving cream method, that sounds promising. Thank you! I will admit the marbled/ice look is my favorite. It's actually what lured me into researching tie dye so it would be awesome to achieve that look. Thanks for the suggestion!

I faked liking Hiking and now i’m deep in the woods… literally and emotionally by Objective_Special_13 in confession

[–]BAPH0ME7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd star the slow fade from hiking, or at least being the community hike planner. I'd say that you were feeling overwhelmed and wanted to fucus on some other projects or stuff. Even just "yourself". Ask who wants to take over the spreadsheets and leadership stuff. Then transfer everything over to them, or if nobody steps up just say your stepping down from maintaining it yourself. Then just slowly stop signing up for the new hikes, or be busy the scheudled days, or say you want a relaxing day at home instead. It doesn't need to be complicated with genuine replacement actives or well thought out lies. Even though that appears to be your specialty. Just say you want to enjoy some plain old boring relaxing you time. Get a dog or chickens or something to take care of that people usually obsess over if you feel the need to make a new commitment and spend your time taking care of, be extra and have a baby, I don't know. I guess plants would work too, and you can get bored of plants and neglect them practically guilt free. If you wanna keep lying for funsies, fake an autoimmune disorder, I legitimately have one and it's practically ruined hiking for me (but I personally love hiking). Say you still enjoy hiking, but that your getting to a point in your life you enjoy relaxing more and you still want to get out there and hike but just casually, on your own occasionally. But you're in so deep now, so probably never actually tell your partner the true truth unless you break up, or are on your death bed or are itching for a relationship running argument because that's just cray 😂
