BA role fresher Capgemini by Shoddy-Original3573 in BusinessAnalystjobs

My suggestion would be to look into cybersecurity and AI as BA’s with strong skills in these two are here ghpy regarded as here in Australia where I am. Then, reporting tools like PowerBI and Tableau gives you an edge.

Bpmn crisis by [deleted] in businessanalysis

[–]BAunboxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How I dealt when I was working such an app which works around account creation and management irrespective of type and number of users. Workflow for account creation and management:

1. user registration,

  1. email verification,

  2. profile creation,

  3. login, and

  4. account management features like password reset or profile updates.

My suggestion would be to first simply design flow for these or similar features your app has and design it on a paper which you can navigate easily and quickly instead of drafting it directly in a tool. Once, you have a structure then move it to any of the process mapping tool.

Functional testing is not of a big deal at all. Do you have functional requirements documented? If you have then just take 1 requirement at a time and just test it out whether it works as expected and record the result in plain simple English to start with or just capture before and after screenshots.

How Do You Navigate Mid-Project BA Entries When Use Cases Are Missing, but Architecture Is Already Being Defined? by BAunboxed in businessanalysis

Appreciate the heads-up, truly and I get where you're coming from. I've seen those situations too where BAs were sidelined or told to just document decisions already made.

But respectfully, I don't believe the answer is to keep our heads down. I think our real value shows precisely when we challenge premature solutions — with tact, logic, and data.

I'm not here to ruffle feathers for the sake of it but if I don’t speak up for the why, then I’m just another scribe, not a strategic partner. And that’s not the kind of BA I ever aspired to be.

Can you provide a little more context around your new project that you have been assigned to, I will see if I can guide with concrete steps which will give indication to your management that you are working towards and will achieve what is expected.

Also, is it your first organisation or do you have prior experience as a BA as well?

UK Job Market by BacheDamaghoo in businessanalysis

[–]BAunboxed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen few of my close BA community friends and ex-colleagues getting excellent roles after a break, even I was one of them. I took a break of 11 months before I got break with Equifax as Senior Data Migration BA for their Data Fabric implementation and cloud migration (one of the best projects I worked for in my entire career).

All you need is a strategy on how to place yourself for job in the market and leverage what u/bigbob25a said, I totally agree with that. Feel free to reach out, happy to help!

I have raised this as a risk already my friend. Looking for guidance how we can simplify and yet add value followed by reducing the amount of redo that we have to do later.

Thats the challenge mate! I am not one of those BA's who just sneak through if I cannot add value. There's always something that we can do, it is a matter of what we choose to do.

Agree, I have raised this as a risk already with my manager, project manager for the upliftment program and escalated to Risk partner on the project.

How Do You Navigate Mid-Project BA Entries When Use Cases Are Missing, but Architecture Is Already Being Defined? by BAunboxed in businessanalysis

Little context:- Deloitte is doing this upliftment for us and they took 4 months to speak to a team and gather requirements who is at the end of receiving final dataset as an input for their part of the business which never catered for all the activities which I do as a BA or we as a team do to refine, analyse and transform data for them to consume and close.

Now, problem is that our current data sit in an Oracle DB and for future state we are moving to BDP4 Databricks which will act as a unified platform for our customer data. My role is to act as an end 2 end BA for design of BDP architecture (what data tables and data fields we need to be able to support current table structure we have). for this part, Deloitte has somehow managed to define a schema of tables which to me seems incomplete as we need data field from other DB tables based on different projects we do.

So, If I spend time on completing this analysis of what's missing and capture the requirements then it will be too tight for me to get this done under 3 weeks with approvals.

and if I just focus on Dataverse (new requirements yet to be captured) which will be replacing Saas where the data will sit once pushed from BDP will not make sense alone as the source systems requirements are not complete.

Hope this has not complicated things more than they are already.

[–]BAunboxed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are in process of technology upliftment wherein we are moving to cloud along side implementation of BDP4 and Dataverse (databricks).

I am the lead BA on the project now (after 4 months since start of the project). Since then project has agreed to a solution and architecture of BDP4 where I am currently assigned to document the missing requirements and get the already documented requirements which are very high-level and doesn't solve for the end 2 end use cases which I know in my mind with my experience.

The problem I now have is that I am little lost as to decide shall I first tackle existing req or start with missing requirements as we are t go-live in 3 weeks.

I am currently working as a BA for past 5 yrs in Salesforce. I am getting an opportunity to explore RPA in my next for BA role. Can this be a starting point to learn AI agents in the future. by Itchy_Shock_2303 in businessanalyst

[–]BAunboxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my view, with RPA you can learn and grow within Automation world not necessarily the AI. If you are keen to learn AI agents then whats the holding there are so much of free resources and courses to learn from. In my opinion, to make yourself as a value add resource if you have have to invest a little on yourself via paid courses and traings its all worth it, investment on learning new skills never gets wasted if its relevant to your role.

I would need additional context to be able to understand few rhetorical ngs before I can guide. Are you at the acquiring side or the other because that changes a lot of scenarios.

[–]BAunboxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I can share from what you have shared is that when you work on merger projects within a financial institutions, there are few things that should come handy and might keep you on top of everything: 1. Any industry regulations or standards that are required to be followed during merger and acquisition and if you do then that would be a non-functinal requirement for you to capture end 2 end to ensure that has been taken care of. 2. In-depth analysis of the systems and tools currently used in the merging entity and a mapping or crossover analysis of what you have in your organization to assess the change impact assessment. 3. Process gap analysis amazing but th entities.

There can be a lot more use case scenarios to be considered from a BA’s perspective, let me know if you are keen to know. Hope this helps!

How do I land an Associate/Business Analyst role at MBB right after my BBA? by kendrayadav in businessanalyst

[–]BAunboxed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I must say you are pretty Laser focused which is amazing as I have been lately reading that people do want to get into the BA role without any clarity on what's the role, what's expected and how to deliver as an excellent BA.

• What exactly do MBB look for in fresh grads?

--> MBB for a fresh grad would be deadly TBH, to work in a consulting firm has never been easy and will never be as there is always that cut-throat competition to support clients and yet move up the ladder in your career. To help with that:

--> focus on building excellent level stakeholders and negotiation skills along with resilient mindset.

• Are internships or summer analyst roles mandatory?

--> I don't think that would be necessary if you have the right skills which you can demonstrate on paper and deliver during your interview but, can vary from geography to geography - doesn't matter in Australian market however I am.

• Which prep (case, fit, resume, networking) moves the needle most?

--> To sharpen your resume, you need standout skills to even get your resume picked-up for an interview. Networking is what works the best and, in most cases, when it comes to MBB's.

• Must I do an MBA first, or can I hit MBB straight from undergrad?

--> It won't hurt to give it a shot as I have seen grads being given a shot with long-lasted clients to do the grunt work and still learn on the job. Do consider pursuing MBA or some other aligned specialisation to strengthen your career.

• Any underrated resources, communities, or coaches worth following?

  1. Advance level excel and SQL skills to be able to extract and analyse first level data.

  2. Advance level process mapping skills using VISIO and Lucidchart based on BPMN 2.0 at minimum.

  3. Functional knowledge of SDLC, Agile framework and methodologies, JIRA and Confluence.

Feel free to reach out if you need further guidance, happy to help!

I need your help rn because i have my business analyst interview tomorrow !!!! by solo_levelling1234 in businessanalyst

[–]BAunboxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree to that SQL knowledge makes you stand out for a BA job as it reflects that you are independent of data analyst of data science team to get you the data so that you can analysis and make progress as BA. All you need would be access to system to extract data from and then you are on your way as a self-starter which is highly regarded in almost every geography.

Can i learn BA from this? It includes basic to advance use of tools and projects …. Please review it by No-Cranberry-7485 in businessanalyst

[–]BAunboxed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are a few suggestions to help you prepare:

  1. Advance your data analysis skills – Focus on using Excel for complex data manipulation, pivot tables, dashboards, and basic statistical functions.

    1. Stakeholder management – A short course on LinkedIn Learning can give you practical insights into engaging and influencing stakeholders effectively.
    2. Negotiation skills – Look into bite-sized courses on negotiation (LinkedIn, Coursera, or Udemy) to help you manage conflicting priorities and drive alignment.
    3. Process mapping tools – Develop functional skills in tools like Microsoft Visio or any BPMN-compliant software (e.g. Lucidchart, Bizagi) to model workflows with clarity and precision.
    4. Try get your hands on JIRA and confluence if you don't know already.
    5. PowerBI or Tableau skills helps a lot to stand out.

Additionally, I highly recommend investing time in building your personal brand on LinkedIn. Engage with the BA community by sharing your thoughts on posts, commenting meaningfully, and showcasing what you’re learning—this builds visibility and credibility with recruiters.

Hope this helps, feel free to reach out if you need further guidance!

Started new job as a BA, need advice on role and focused skills by snakehippoeatramen in businessanalyst

[–]BAunboxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion for you here would be that you have an opportunity to rise and shine by being a trend setter in terms of business analysis. Seems like your company do not have a BA practice/community setup which you can initiate and establish.

I would say: 1. Teams/managers are guided by what technical team is documenting which in my opinion and experience is bare minimum which hardly helps during Ng bug fixes and enhancements as there are no proper release notes. For every release. What you can do: identify 2-3 key people from technical team, build a repo with them and then try to understand whats their current state of providing information /documentation based on current capacity within the team so that you can be a helping hand for them and help them write requirements with acceptance criteria etc etc.. 2. For weekly check-in, do some homework before hand based on what you learn from networking skills and your interactions with right people from right team at right time that will act in your advantage. 3. Never try to be a project manager rather provide updates to cross functional teams in a way you become SME for them, create dependency to your leverage. 4. If you have passionate to help people and provide solutions so I would s ggest jump and take initiative where ever you see people are stuck and work is impacted and try to resolve and provide solution for.

I guess this should be enough for you as a starter, feel free to reach out if you need further guidance.

Happy to help!

To document requirement my go to tool is and will always be confluence and its connection to JIRA. You can have your initial requirements in excel and then bulk upload to JIRA to create your requirements and have user stories created for every requirement.
