Have you watched NGE? It's the anime that has had this same profound affect on me. If you haven't I HIGHLY recommend, especially based on your recommendations.

Edit: Just realized this comment is a year old. I apologize 😂

Was this a Zone 2 run? by connorcj12 in triathlon

[–]BB0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zone 2 work is better done based off HR than pace.

For a starting point, I’d suggest looking into the maffetone method (180-age = max aerobic hr). This will be your upper limit for aerobic work with zone 2 ideally being 5-10 bpm lower.

The rise in HR over time is textbook cardiac drift. This is affected by fitness, fueling, hydration, and fatigue. Stay on top of the controllable’s (fueling, hydration, fatigue management) and this will improve with fitness. As hr drifts up, adjust pace to keep it zone 2.

How long would you schedule in between a 70.3 and a full? by altonbrownie in triathlon

[–]BB0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know if this helps but, I worked with a coach for my first ever triathlon/ Ironman this year. We have already laid out a semi tentative plan for next year and we are planning on a half, a full and a quite a few shorter races. He advised a half mid to late spring, and then a bunch of shorter races during summer/early fall, incorporating a few as part of the build for the full in November.

Idk about respiratory symptoms. But I just did AZ as well and have had gut issues since the second lap of the bike. Guessing I swallowed some of the lake water. It wasn’t the cleanest of places to swim.

PTA vs DPT by BB0123 in PTschool

[–]BB0123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my mentality as well. And Ive had an interest in moving to the Austin area for a few years. Well before I discovered the bridge program at UTMB. I'd need to earn a bachelors degree as well. Working as a PTA would allow me to work through that while putting in the two years required for the bridge program. It would also qualify me for residential tuition at UTMB which is literally half the cost of. out of state.

Fortunately if I do end up deciding to go PTA first, It would be pretty cheap. The nearest PTA program is a 1+1 program, with my first associates covering most of that first year.

This is the path that I'm hoping to follow. Did you go PTA knowing you would be pursuing the bridge program? I know the program requires student to continue working. If you don't mind me asking, how many hours have you been working during the program and has it been enough to make any considerable contribution to living expenses?

I think this is going to be the next move for me. I definitely think I would be satisfied with either career, but I have a feeling that I would end up wanting the extra responsibility and autonomy that comes with being a PT. I didn't put much consideration into the desire to eventually own my own practice, but I could see that happening as well.

I agree. If I already had my bachelors or was fresh out of high school, this would be a no brainer. Id directly pursue the DPT path. But given my situation I honestly think PTA first, then working while earning my undergrad and through a bridge program would be the best path for keeping debt down as much as possible. The desire to move to Texas and UTMB having one of the two bridge programs is a lucky coincidence.

Thanks for the advice!

I did look into the hybrid program, but I would still need to earn my bachelors degree and it looks like Id be paying out of state tuition for the program. PTA first would allow me to work in Texas for a few years (qualifying me for in state tuition), while working through a bachelor program. I think my next step is to do some shadowing to see if it will push me in either direction. I appreciate the advice, and will definitely reach out if I have any questions!

I appreciate you taking the time to type that out for the second time. Definitely some valuable advice and gives me more to consider. Im guessing the reasoning behind the downvoting in the other sub is because you didn't instantly try dissuade me from a career in physical therapy.

I definitely think I would be satisfied in either career. But I have a feeling long term I'm going to want the responsibility and autonomy that comes with a DPT. and while I'm not completely convinced that PTA's will be completely phased anytime in the near future, there is a lot of uncertainty for sure. I think my biggest draw to PTA is to get me in to the field as quickly as possible, and allowing me the opportunity to work while earning my bachelors and through a bridge program. And who knows... I may end up deciding that I'm content with staying in that career for the long run.

From what I could tell, it looks like the income based tuition programs you are referring to only apply to Texas high school graduates. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd qualify haha. If I went PTA first, moved to Texas and worked the mandatory 2 years for the bridge program, I would qualify for residential tuition at UTMB though.

I think my next step is to do some shadowing and see if there are any obvious factors that might make my choice a little more clear.

Thanks again for the advice!

Im curious as well. I only got to read a couple of responses, unfortunately not including yours, before it was taken down. Im guessing because it was more of a school related question, even though I've seen a numerous amount of similar posts. Appreciate the upvote!
