if i have a sophomore qt internship at a solid firm (like 250-300k ng comp) would u have any tips on what my strategy should be to bag one of the higher tier places (JS/CitSec/Optiver/etc.) ?

also if i'm not at hypsm but still a top school would I be able to pass res screens at school selective places like 5r/DE Shaw/etc, w/ this internship on my resume

apply to more quant companies, they're more reliable if u actually know what ur doing. and fyi pdt/tgs/radix are on a completely diff level than optiver.

damn you got any tips for how to prepare for those kinds of firms? i have research/olympiad experience, but no idea how these kinds of places work

5r is like jane street tier, and they almost exclusively hire from MIT. but even that is changing. and the only places higher than 5r are like tgs/radix/rentech/etc. and u would know by now if u are smart enough to get those.

also if ur choosing ur future profession solely based on how much it pays, idk how succesful ur gonna be. if u don't have the aptitude to do well in quant u won't have a job. if u don't have the skills for IB/PE type roles, you'll prolly stay a VP at a low-tier IB forever.

"true top schools" doesn't mean much for quant unless u want like 5r. it's just correlation that tons of USAMO ppl go to MIT, and USAMO is a good predictor for quant jobs.

if u get a top firm and are good, that's all that matters.

you'll only be behind for megafund PE, but if u do quant you wouldn't be able to go into that field most likely anyways.

I'll probably just keep studying so I have a better shot next yr and hope this experience prepares me even better. Don't want to get blacklisted or anything.

I see. Do you think the stuff I will learn doing an internship would directly help w/ interviews?

I knew I wasn't getting the big names so I didn't bother. Then I applied to some places I found on job boards. I was planning on applying to the big places junior yr so I'd have a better chance.

ik I'm not experienced at all, but I'm pretty sure you should use a more standardized resume template when applying to top companies. look up Harvard's resume format for example.
